ERAGUARD ROOF COATINGS FOR USE
OVER POLYURETHANE SPRAY FOAM AND
METAL PANEL ROOFS

1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 ERSystems submitted their Eraguard roof coatings for testing to determine If they
would meet the Approval requirements of Factory Mutual Research Standard 4470 (1986) for
Class 1 Fire, Windstorm and Hail Classifications for use in recover construction with
polyurethane spray foam insulation applied over steel, wood and concrete deck roofs, insulated
metal panel roofs and in new construction over structural concrete roof decks.
1.2 Examination included ASTM E108 (93) fin:testing for potential exterior fire spread,
simulated hail damage testing, water leakage testing and resistance to foot traffic testing.
Other tests with the foam insulations were completed under J.I. 0Z3Q4.AM.
1.3 Test results show that the Eraguard coatings submitted for testing meet the Factory
Mutual Research Standard 4470 Approval requirements for Class 1 Roof Covers when installed
as described in the CONCLUSIONS of this report.
II MATERIALS TESTED
2.1 Eraguard 1000 FR, Gray is a gray acrylic, water based roof coating spray or roller
applied to sprayed rigid polyurethane foam roof insulation. Eraguard 1000 FR, Gray is applied
as a base coat at a minimum rate of 1.5 gal/square (0.6 f/mz)with a minimum 12.5 mil [0.0125
in. (0.3 mm)) dry thickness. Eraguard 1000 FR, White is applied after a 12 to 24 hour initial
cure at a minimum rate of 1.5 gal/square (0.6 f/m2) with a minimum 12.5 mil [0.0125 in. (0.3
mm)] dry thickness.
2.2 Eraguard 1000 FR, White is a white acrylic, water based roof coating. It is spray or
roller applied to Eraguard 1000 FR, Gray base coat at a minimum rate of 1.5 gal/square (0.6
9/m2) with a minimum 12.5 mil [0.0125 in. (0.3 mm)] dry thickness or it is applied to Eraguard
2000- Primer- FR in a two coat application with each coating applied at a minimum rate of 0.75
gal/square (0.3 9/m2)with a minimum 12.5 mll [0.0125 in. (0.3 mm)] dry thickness. The use of
No. 11 roofing granules is optional over polyurethane foam and requires that a third coat of
Eraguard 1000 FR, White be applied at a rate of 0.5 gal/square(0.2 P/m2)with granules
broadcast into the wet coating at a rate of 40 Ib/square (1.9 kg/m2).

5.1.4 Eraguard 2000- Primer-FR is a base coat spray or roller applied to
existing Approved insulated or uninsulated metal panel roofs at a minimum application rate of
0.5 gal/square (0.2 Q/m:') with a minimum 4 mil [0.004 in. (0.1 mm)] dry thickness. After a 12 to
24 hour cure Eraguard 1000 FR, White is applied In a two coat application with each coating
applied at a minimum rate of 0.75 gal/square (0.3 Q/m') with a minimum 12.5 mil 10.0125 In. (0.3
mm)] dry thickness. The total dry thickness is minimum 16.5 mil [0.0165 in. (0.42 mm)].
5.1.5 ASTM E108 Ratings
5.1.5.1 The Eraguard 1000 FR, Gray/Eraguard 1000 FR, White mee
Class A ASTM E108 non-combustible deck rating at a maximum roof slope of 1 in 12 when
applied aver the maximum 3 in. (76 mm) thick polyurethane spray foam shown in 5.1.1 above.
5.1.5.2 The Eraguard 2000 - Primer-FR/Eraguard 1000 FR, White
combination meets Class A ASTM E108 non-combustible deck rating at a maximum roof slope
of 1 in 12 when applied over an Factory Mutual'Research Approved insulated or uninsulated
metal panel roof.
5.1.6 Hail Ratings -All of the above constructions meet Class 1-SH Nail Rating.
5.2 The roof cover must be installed using an Factory Mutual Research Approved
perimeter flashing system. Refer to the current edition of the Factory Mutual Research Approval
Guide for details.
5.3 Test results show that the above roof constructions, in and of themselves alone,
would not create a need for automatic sprinkler protection.
5.4 The tested roof systems, when Installed as described above, meet the Factory
Mutual Research Approval Standards and when Approval is effective, will be listed in the
Factory Mutual Research Approval Guide, Roof Coverings section.
5.5 Approval is effective when the Approval Agreement is signed and received by
Factory Mutual Research.
5.6 Continued Approval depends on satisfactory field experience and periodic Quality
Audit Inspections.
5.7 The securement of the roof system must be enhanced at the building comers and
perimeter as outlined in FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets 1-28 for roof decks
and 1-29 for above deck components.
VI MARKING
6.1 The manufacturer shall mark each packing container(pail or drum)with the
manufacturer's name and product trade name. In addition, the container must be marked with
the Factory Mutual Research Approval Mark and the words, "Subject to the conditions of
Approval as a protective roof coating for use in Class 1 roof construction as described in the
current edition of the Factory Mutual Research Approval Guide."
6.2 Markings denoting Factory Mutual Research Approval shall by applied by the
manufacturer only within and on the premises of manufacturing locations that are under the
Factory Mutual Research Facilities and Procedures Audit Program.
