ATTENDANCE
Bruce Kokal, Bob Kost. Lee Erger, Mariann Kienzler, Les Kelley,
and Tom Casey were present. John Ge�hardson fram the Orono
City staff was present. Virginia Sweatt and Phil Bradley were
absent.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes from the August meeting were approved with attendence
being amended to include Tom. Casey.
FUNDS FROM THE ORONO LIONS CLTJB
Mike Ellis a representative from the Orono Lions Club attended
the meeting. Mr. Ellis made lm ow to the members of the Commission
that the Lions Club would like to donate funds to the Parks of
Orono. A list of park improvements will be sent to the Lions
Club so that they may choose how the funds can be used.
SUNI�IIT PARK SWIM BEACH PARKING PROBLEM
A private individual living near the Summit Park Swim Beach area
sent a complaint letter to the City. The letter stated that
parking in this area has increased and is creating a great deal
of noise and complications. The individual stated also that the
area should have signs (no parking) posted, or even having the
parking lot enlarged. John Gerhardson will enclose sketch of the
additional parking space for discussion at the next meeting.
CASCO SWIM BEACH GATE
A property owner has recommended that a gate be put up that would
fascilitate closing at the designated time. John Gerhardson will
provide the design plans.
ON-GOING AGENDA
Park inspections have not been completed for this year. Members
of the Commission are to visit the three swimming areas before
the next meeting.
Hackberry Park - The City Council warmly recieved the revised plans
for the skating area.
Livingston Tower Park - Plans have been reviewed and approved.
Mariann Kienzler has a m eeting scheduled with the head of the
sculpture department of the Minnesota Art Center to discuss
the Centers participation.
Park promotions- Virginia Sweatt made arrangements with the PIONEER
to have articles on the Orono Parks included as a regular item.
Mariann Kienzler volunteered to write various articles for the paper.
Comprehensive Plan - Bike-Hike system. Information from the previously
discussed plans are inclosed. John Gerhardson will be bringing
the DNR bike-hike trail map.
Parks Use Survey - John Gerhardson will bring the old survey for
discussion at the next meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 9:OOpm. September lst is the next
scheduled meeting.
