ORONO PARK COMMIS�IQN MAY 12, 1987

Mariann Kienzler, Bruce Kokal;, Virginia Sweatt, Les Kelley, Lee
Erger and Phil Bradley were present. John Gerhardson from the
Orono City staff was also present.
APPROVAL OF MINOTES
Minutes from the April 6, 1987 Park Commission meeting were
approved.
MAINTENANCE SDRVEY/PARR TODR
Commissioners visited several Orono parks and identified the
following:
Casco Skating Rink Needs decorative wood sign, needs coniferous
trees, good place to add basketball hoops, possible need for play
equipment.
Casco Circle Park New wood sign looks good, need to study deed
restrictions for possibility of future improvements, could use
flowers and permanent bench, possible site for Surry Gage
involvement.
Navarre Tot Lot/Livingston Tower Park Still needs plantings and
re-seeding. John Gerhardson has not solicited bids for
landscaping yet. He indicated that he will have some prices for
Commissioners to review at next meeting. Also needs decorative
wood sign.
Navarre Pl�round Garbage can needs to be chained to a post.
Play equipment was painted, and sand placed under equipment.
Roberta Lee Antoine Playground/Ice Skating Rink Needs coniferous
trees, mary-go-round was removed, play equipment was painted, sand
was installed under play equipment.
Crystal Bay Playground Part of City property being considered for
new City service center. Play equipment was painted, sand
installed under play equipment.
CITY NURSERY
John Gerhardson informed Commissioners of availability of 1 to 3
inch caliper ash and maple trees and 4 to 6 foot tall spruce
trees which could be used to enhance City parks and to reduce
potential cost of Livingston Tower Park landscape bids. He also
indicated possibility of the City renting a tree spade from
Hennepin County to transplant these trees.
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN REVIEW
Mariann Kienzler will review the bike/hike trails and planning
park improvements at our next meeing.
LIVINGSTON TOWER PARR SCDLPTDRE
Commissioners reafirmed their desire to commission a small
sculpture for the park. John Gerhardson,/recommended that a
Commissioner present the entire park plant� to the City Council.
Marriann Kienzler will talk to Minnetonka Art Center about request

PARIC COMMISSION CHAIRMAN
Resignation of Chairman Terry Morse from Park Commission
necessitated nomination of a new chairman. Bob Kost was nominated
and approved. Chair was accepted.
PARK COMMISSION SECRETARY
A new secretary will be nominated at the next meeting.
HACRBERRY SRATING RINR
John Gerhardson is meeting with well installer to discuss price
and schedule. Commissioners will recommend that City Council hold
public hearing at June 22nd meeting.
ADJOORNMENT
Meeting was adjourned at 8 :25 p.m. The next Park Commission
meeting is scheduled for June 2nd, 1987, at 6:00 p.m.
