ATTENDANCE
Terry Morse, Bruce Kokal, Mariann Kienzler, Les Kelley, Lee Erger
and Phil Bradley were present. John Gerhardson from the Orono
City staff was also present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes from the February 2, 1987 Park Commission meeting were
approved.
GREENWAY SOCIETY
Surrey Gage, Organizer of the Greenway Society, was invited and
present at the meeting. The Society' s philosophy, goals ,
operational methods and structure were covered in his
presentation. There are currently no verified members from whom
would serve as resources to project sponsored by the City,
however, he does know of several who have expressed an interest.
HACRBERRY PARK SRATING PARR
Preliminary designs for the proposed skating rink were presented
by John Gerhardson and reviewed by the Commission. Two designs
were reviewed. The first was a basic rectangular design, the
second had an irregular rounded extension of one corner ,
complimenting the contours of the land. The Commission suggested
that another irregular corner by included, again to compliment the
land as well as for making the rink less attractive for hockey
games.
LIVINGSTON TOWER PARK
Park Sculpture: Mariann Kienzler completed some library research
and provided books/pictures for review by the Commission. After a
brief review, there was concensus that the sculpture design should
resemble and/or serve as a bird bath whe completed.
John Gerhardson will provide mounting requirements, and less
Kelley will provide pictures/design examples of ornate bird baths
of the April 6 meeting. Following these presentations the
Commission will begin describing requirements, to be used in a
proposal to the Art Center.
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN REVIEW
Terry Morse reviewed the Park and Open Space Goals and Polices
section of the Comprehensive Plan. Mariann Kienzler is to review
the Park and Open Space Plan at the April 6 meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
Meeting was adjourned at 9 : 00 p.m. The next Park Commission
meeting is scheduled for April 6th, 1987, at 7:00 p.m.
