ATTENDANCE
Terry Morse, Lee Erger, Mariann Kienzler, Bob Kost, Phil Bradley
and Ginny Sweatt were present. John Gerhardson from the Orono
City staff was also present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes from the January 5, 1987 Park Commission meeting were
approved.
ORONO COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Brian Bergstrom addressed the Commission regarding Community
Education summer activities and park usage. Access to a
telephone, covered shelter and active play areas were major
contributing factors regarding park selection. Community
Education is interested in working with the City to further
utilize p.ark resources and would participate in a user needs
survey to better serve the community and strengthen the program.
LIVINGSTON TOWER PARR
Finalized landscape plan has been forwarded to John Gerhardson for
inclusion in the bid request.
PARR SCULPTURE
Mariann Kienzler will research sculpture design criteria/types,
etc. for discussion at the next meeting.
GREENWAY SOCIETY
John Gerhardson will invite Sury Gage to address the Commission at
the next meeting.
PARKS PROMOTIOAT
Mariann Kienzler's article regarding ice skating was reviewed and
approved for publication. Terry Morse will contact the official
City news reporter regarding a promotional article on City parks
and the Park Commission. Morse also volunteered to write the next
article on parks and active sports. Further discussion was held
on a press release for the ice rink request at Hackberry Park.
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN REVIEW
Terry Morse summari zed the f irst section of Chapter 8. He wi 1 1
present the second section at the next meeting.
USER NEEDS SIIRVEY
Dicusssion was held regarding the need for a current user needs
survey. Bob Kost will bring a copy of sample survey for further
discussion at next meeting.
SUBDIVISION REVIEW
John Gerhardson will inform City staff of Commission's desire to
review significant subdivision requests for park dedication
requirements.
MEMORIAL TREES
Brief discussion was held regarding a memorial tree donati�n
policy. Bob Kost will contact Minneapolis Park Board '�for
information about their donation policy.
ADJOURNMENT
Meeting was adjourned at 9 : 25 p.m. The next Park Commission
meeting is scheduled for March 2nd, 1987, at 7:00 p.m.
