CITY OF ORONO
� PARK COMMISSION
The regular meeting of the Orono Park Commission was held on December
2 , 1980 .
The following mernbers were present : ATTENDANCE
Tomlinson , Kelley , Massengale , Peterson
and Sweatt .
The minutes of the November meeting were MINUTES
read and approved .
Debby Massengale submitted a letter of RESIGNATION
resignation due to her upcoming marriage .
She will not be living in Orono .
About $1 ,000 . 00 from the Block Grant Fund CASCO CIRCLE PARK
is available for Casco Circle Park .
Although no building or playground equip-
ment can be placed on the property , plant-
ing can be done especially shrubs which
attract birds . There was a motion by Lee
Tomlinson and seconded by Les Kelley , to
recommend to the City Council that the
remaining Block Grant Funds for Casco
Circle Park be used for planting appropriate
trees and shrubs in the park . The motion
passed .
We discussed tree planting throught the city , TREE PLANTING
and will bring it up at future meetings .
` Grant funds are unlikely to be available for BICYCLE SAFETY PROGRAM
a bicycle safety program without matching_
funding from the city . Some civic groups
might be interested in donating a number of
man hours which could be credited to the
program as a portion of the matching funding .
The grant application will be discussed with
the city staff by Lee Tomlinson .
Fill will be brought in next spring , if not BEDERWOOD PARK
before , to Bederwood , to bring the baseball
diamond up to regu1ation size .
The backstop has been installed . It has ART CENTER
been angled so that the Art Center windows
will not be quite so susceptible to breakage ,
and so it also avoids some drainfields . .
The Park Commission will compose a 1etter
stating that the residents of Orono are to
be given use of the Art Center playground
although it is on private property . It is

hoped that care will be taken of the grounds .
