CITY OF ORONO
PARK COMMISSION
The regular meeting of the Orono Park Commission was held July 8, 1980.
'rhe Orono Park Commission met on the ATTENDANCE
above date with the following members
p.resent; Watson, Peterson, and Goetten.
Not Present; Tomlinson, Kelley, Erger, ,
and Massengale.
The minutes of the May meeting were r4INUTES READ
read and approved by the members
present.
Tomlinson ap�eared before the City BEDEP.WOOD PARK
Council at their last meeting and he
reiterated our problem in getting the
grading done at Bederwood Park. The
Council unanimously agreed to grant
tlie funding needed for this project.
John Gerhardson will get these figures
to the Park Commission.
The Orono Park & Recreational results PARK SURVEY RESULTS
were reviewed by the Council and Tom-
linson.
Since many residents are unaware of
where the parks and other related
facilities are, perhaps the next
issue of the Orono Renorter could be
used to relay this information in
detail. A letter of thanks will be
sent to Debbie Massengale for her
work on this project. ,
Fred Ryan appeared before the City FRED RYAt1 REQUEST
Council regarding the piece of un-
improved public access and park land
at the intersection of North Arm Dr.
and Park Drive.
Goetten relayed to the Council the
suggestion of the Park Commission in
having the two pieces combined, fenced,
and maintained by the City. Mr. Ryan
stated that the area is still unsafe
� and requested that something be done
as soon as possible. The matter was
tabled until the next council meeting.

Tomlinson was unable to attend tonight ' s SKI SCHOOL
meeting and asked that Commission membPrs
be aware that he is meeting Friday, July
11, 1980 with Dick Benson and Bill Reese
to discuss the proposed Ski School that
would begin this winter. .
Nembers present were shown the Park MEMBERS SEE PARK
survey results and the following SURVEY RESULTS
comments are noted:
l. A compliation of residents personal comments.
2 . A listing of high priority facilities.
3. Actual precentage of those against tax increase
for recreational purposes.
4 . Plan action as a result of survey.
The park commission will continue to NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS
focus our attention on neighborhood
parks. Watson will check on the
status of the park at Pdinnetonka Art
Center. Due to the density in this
area, the soccer goals that were re-
moved should be replaced. Peterson
suggested that local citizens would
be willing to make soccer nets.
Peterson stated that a lot on Arbor
and Minnetonka Avenue has been vacant
for a number of years and hopefully
this lot could be used as a playground
area in the future.
The status of Summit Park was raised
and perhaps some information will be
made available at next month' s meet-
ing. •
Comprehensive Plan Guides were passed
out to all Park Commission members.
