CITY OF ORONO
PARK COMI�IISSION
Regular neeting of the Orono Park Commission held Mayf6 , 1980.
The Orono Park Commission met on the ATTENDANCE
above date with the following members
present: Chairman Tomlinson, Massengale,
Erger, Peterson, Watson, Kelley and
Goetten. Also present were Fred Ryan,,
Bill Reese, Toni Berglund, Director of
Community Services and Therese Schwending
Program Coordinator, Summer Recreation
Program,
The minutes of the April meeting were read r�INUTES
and approved.
Fred Ryan appeared before the Park Commission UNIDIPROVED PUBLIC
regarding a piece of unimproved public access
and park land at the intersection of North Arm ACCESS
Drive and Park Drive. The area has become unsafe
for neighborhood children due to its use by
speeding cars and dirt bikes. Ryan requested
that either the City maintain the area by fencing
it or vacate the property to Ryan who would see
to it' s upkeep.
A r.►otion was riade by Goetten, seconded by Watson
to"retain park land and combine with unused public
access to create a more feasible neighborhood park
�rea. Area must be fenced and maintained by the
City. " Motion was unanimously passed.
Bill Reese reported that he had been in touch with . SKI SCHOOL GOLF
Toni Berglund regarding a ski school at Orono Golf'
Course to be offered through Cor.tmunity Services. COURSE
The Park Commission will meet with Mr. Reese at
the Golf Course on June 3 to see the layout feasibil-
ity and costs.
Toni Berglund introduced Theresa Schwending to the PROGRAb1 COORDINATOR
Park Commission. She was hired as the Program Coord-
inator for the Summer Recreation Program in the Orono
School District. The Park Commission was given a
• schedule of her visits to the five communities invol-
� ved in the program. The program will begin June 16
through August 15 for ages 5-12. Programs in Orono
will be primarily on Tuesday & Friday afternoons.

Berglund mentioned that a Bicycle Safety BICYCLE SAFETY AND BIKE-A-THO:
Rodeo will be held Saturday morning May 10
at Green Glen Park, and a Cystic Fibrosis
Bike-A-Thon in the afternoon in Long Lake. �
The Park Commission approved the final CONIPREHENSIVE PLAN DRAFT
draft of the Comprehensive Plan at a
meeting held on April 8.
Massengale reported a 20% (588) return on the
Park survey. She plans to run the returns '
through a computer for results.
