PARK COMMISSION
Regular meotin� of the Orono Park Commission held 1�larch L�., 1980.

present : Chairman Tomlin�on, Massengale,
Erger, and Goetten. Not Present : iselley,
Peterson, and Watson. Also presen�; were
John Gerhardson, Public Workg Coordinator,
and Bill Reese.
The minutas of the February meeting were MINUTES APPROVED
read and approved.
Bil.l Reese appeared before the Park SKI PROGRA.M
Commission to tell us that he is in- 4
terested in or�anizing a ski program
for Orono. With Ski Tonka now closed,
the City is in naed of a ski program
as part of a total recreation program.
Questions raised were :
1 . Location- probably Orono Golf Course
2. Minimum Number of students to start
up �program. An instructor is needed for
every 10 students.
3. Cost to participants
1�. Liability to the City
5. Snowmaking facilities and other
equipment.
Tomlinson suggested that Reese should now
pursue this program through Toni Berglund,
Community Services.
Massengale passed out 2nd draft of the COMMUNITY SURVEY
Community Survey for the Park Commission ' s
review. A few minor corrections were made.
Massengale thought the survey would be
ready to send out next week. It will be
sent to every household to be returned
two weeks later.
Gerhardson presented the Park Commission PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT
with a list of the playground equipment
ordered for Bederwood Park. TYie equip-
ment will be purchased from Earl T. Anderson

made a motion, seconded by Erger that
"the recommendation of the Public t�`orks
Coorainator to the City Council for the
purchase of equipment for Bederwood Park
be followed. "
Tomlinson r•eported that the City Council CITY COUNCIL APPROVF�
approved the Cornmunity Services Proposal SUMMER RECREATION
to support the surr�ner recreation program. PROGR.AM
Tomlinson appointed lliann Goetten as the DIANN GOETT�T APPOTNTED
liaision between Community Services and
the Park Commission regarding this new
pro�ram.
Tomlinson, Benson, and Gerhardson met to DANIEL 'S PARK
discuss the park status at Navarre. The
house has now been razed and the play-
ground equipment can now be moved to this
new site.
A suggestion was made to change the name
to Daniel Woods Playgrourid.
Tomlinson received a letter from Don LETTER-DON ULRICK
Ulrick, Supervisor of Community Sarvices �
of the Westonka School District regarding
a weekly soccer program involving the
communities of Orono, Spring Park, Shore-
wood, Minnetrista, and Independence.
Tomlinson said he would take this up with
Dick Benson.
The Comprehensive Community Management COMPNEHENSIVE COMNNNITY
Plan is being reviewed and revised and M,�NAGEMENT PLAN
Tomlinson woul d like the imput of the
Park Commission members.
