PARK COMMISSIpN
Rescheduled meeting of the Orono Park Commission held January 9, 1980.
The Orono Park Com�nission met on the ATTENDANCE
above date with the following members
present: Chairman Tomlinson, Watson,
Massengale and Goetten. Not present:
Kelley, Peterson and Erger. Also in-
vited to at�end from the City Council
were membera Walter Massengale and Jo
Ellen Hurr; representing Orono Co�rmlunity
Education Services Toni Berglund, Direc-
tor, and Phyllis Charlton, Advisory Board
memb er.
Tomlinson opened the meeting stating the SURVEY
purpose of the survey-to help define the
policy role ahead for the Park Commi.ssion.
Toni Berglund mentioned that Comnnznity
Services had taken a general survey last
spring-3,000 household units in the Orono
School District were polled with a 20� re-
turn. Bergland said there was a real need
for �laying fields, soccer fields, ice rinks,
and more beach use. Debbie Massengale said
the survey should be ready for review by the
Park Commission within a few weeks. A spec-
ial meeting will be called for this review.
A few personal surveys will be done by Park
Commission members to aid in our results.
Masaengale stated that the City Council COUNCIL SUPPORT
would be willing to support more services
for the community if they were needed and
would look to the Park Comm.ission to de-
fine those needs.

Orono School District-Medina, Long Lake,
Minnetonka Beach, Independence, Maple
Plain and Orono, headed by a Program Co-
ordinator. Berglund is lookin� for mon-
atary and general support from each of
the six communities. �.nphasis is being
placed on a day-time program that would
ro�ate from city to city. A person
from each of the communities supporting
the program would be appointed to an
advisory board.

The Park Commission w�s asked for their DAYTON PROPERTY
opinion on the 90 ' additional piece of
property at Su�xmiit Park to be donated
by Bruce Dayton. No objection would be
made to this gift.
