' PARK COI�II�IISSION
Regular meaning of the Orono Park Cor-�nission rield I�:ay 1 , 1979.
The Orono Park Cornnission met on tne above date ATTENDANCE
with tne following members present: Chairman
Tomlinson, Berglund, Kelley, Peterson, Watson
and Goetten. Not Present: Er�er. Also a�ten-
ding by invitation: John Gerhardson Public
Works Coordinator.
The minutes of the April meeting will be corrected MINVTES CORRECTED
to show tnat the Lea�ue of Wor7en �oters purchased
four trees for Bederwood Park. 'I'F-ie minutes were
then approved as corrected.
Gerhardson reported �'r.at the City is still in tne DANIELS PLAYGROUI�D
process of acquiring the Daniels Playground Prop-
erty. It is now being used partially as a park
and ride area.
Copies of the engineer ' s cover letter plus a drawing BEDERWOOD PARK PLANS
of the grading for a Babe Ruth size ball park at
Bederk�ood Park were passed out to Commission members.
Gernardson explained that the study was completed
within the amount budgeted. There is a 1 ' cut from
home plate to the outfield. The �l�.,000 figure does
include aglime of 2" - L�" does not include black
dressing and seeding.
Motion by Tomlinson, Seconded by Watson as follows :
RESOLVED: WHEREAS tne playground equipment including
a back stop, will consume all the current funding for
Bederwood Park:
TFiEREFORE: Zhe Park Corrmiission recommends to the City
Council a new allocation of flznds for the grading and
construction of Bederwood Park for a Babe Ruth size
baseball diamond, the amount requested is estimated
at $6,000.
Motion was unanimously passed.
Tomlinson then brought up the proposed dedication of ANTONIO FAVERO PROPERTY
property to the City by Antonio Favero.
Motion by Watson, seconded by Erger as follows:
The Park Commission recommends to the Cit,y Council
that the proposed dedication of property by I�Zr.
Antonio Favero, located in the Niinnatonka Summit �
Park subdivision, block 7, lots 9 & 10, not be
accepted by the City for Park use. �
Copies of the Navarre Theatre development by NAVARRE TTriEATRE

Park Corr�mission members asking for our recommendations
for a possible park s�te. Dick Benson to�d Gernardson
that no�hing is finalized. The plan calls for multiple
d�aellings of 2� housing units. The developer has not .
designated a recreation area at this point, only a
f'uture pond. T'ne Navarre Theatre nas surplus play-
gro�nd eouipment that could be used in a f�Zi�ure park
or in a site nearby. It should be noted that Daniels
playgrou.nd ia only 2 blocks a��ay. �:'atson suggested
a Tot Lot.
Toms�nson recom�mended:
1 . Determine value oF Navarre playground
equipr�ient-- is it worth salvaging. John Gerhardson
k•ill get estimate.
2. Playground equipment as part of a Park
Dedication fee--option, Tot Lot.
Gerhardson reported that Orono Golf Course hopefully ORONO GOLF �TNDIT`TG
could be integrated with the Y�etropolitan Park and
Open Space Commission for �ZncLng. Overwhelming
expenses coming up for well, septic system, and
outda�ed equipment.
Gerhardson mentioned that the black dirt SUI�IMIT PARK
foundation fill at Surntnit Park has not
been done because of the rain, the entrance
will also be blocked.
Les Kelle3r will look into the playground MINNETONKA ART CENTER
area and equipment at the Ni'innetonka Art
Center. �ie will also find out if the area
will accomodate a soccer field.

'_�'Yie playground behind the Minnetonka Arts Center �
has not been reinstalled. Several area residents MZ'KA. ART CENT;R
have reported that their children were asked to
leave the area behind the Art Center. The agree-
ment to provide city services to the Art Center
(snow plowing and mowing) was made in exchange
for the use of tne open space behind the bui3'ding
for playground and soccer field. Les Kelley is
making inquiries on behalf of tne Park Commission
as to the understanding of the agreement.
