HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-06-1977 Park Commission Minutes � � CITY OF ORONO , ,., PARK COr1MI55I0N Regular meeting of the Orono Park Commission held December 6, 1977 : The Orono Park Commission met on the above ATTENDANCE date with the following members present: Chairman Tomlinson, Berglund, Lathrop, Kelley, Watson and Erger. No members were absent; Also in attendance was Mayor Brad Van Nest. The minutes of the November 1 , 197? meeting MINUTES APPROVED were accepted. Lee Er�er has been officially appointed to the OFFICALLY APPOINTED: LEE Park Commission by the City Council. ERGER Mayor Van Nest suggested we fill the existing PROSPECTIVE MEMBER LIST vacancy on the Park Commission and referred to a list of Orono citizens who have expressed an interest in serving in some capacity. Chairman Tomlinson will contact those on the list. Roland Ber�lund, whose term is scheduled ta ROLI�ND BERGLUND TO REMAIN expire this month, has agreed to continue as a AIdOTHER TERM member for another term. �e Park Commission is recommending to the STREET LIGHTS: ANTOINE & Council that street lights be ordered for HACKBERRY PARKS @ $20.�.0/YR. The Park Commission recommenas locating two lights at Antoine Park and one at Hackberry. The projects reported to be ready to proceed at RESCHEDULING OF PARK PRO JECTS the last commission meetin� were all delayed by FOR NEXT SPRING early snowfall and have all been rescheduled for next spring. Equipment for Antoine Park is in storage at the City garage. The cammission felt that these projects should be given top priority next spring by the Public Works Department. It was determined BIKE-IiIKE TRAILS STUDY TO that ample atudy had been done by the Bike-Hike BE SENT TO STATE & COUNTY Trails Committee and that it ' s recommendations, as shown in a prepared book, be forwarded to the Hennepin County Highway Department for inclusion in its planning. Those recommendations will be condensed and shown on a map to go to the County. -'l - � . , . � REGULAR Mk�ETING OF THE ORONO PARK COMMISSION HELD DECEMBER 6, 1977 : The Sandy Beach Iiearing, December 12, 1 977, will SANDY BEACH HEARING 12/12/77 be attended by Chairman Tomlinson, to support the Commission' s contention that the beach re- main open. Mayor Van Nest attended a meeting regarding the "PARK" ON BIG ISLAND "Park" on Big Island. Chairman Tomlinson will contact Dick Benson TOT�lLINSON TO DISCUSS regarding the Dayton Property, Bederwood Park PROPERTIES WITH DICK BENSON (The Larson Property) and the Creamry Property adjacent to the Luce Line. Mayor Van Nest briefly explained the financing FINANCING FOR PARK COI�9M. of Park Commission activities. The commission was given copies of the annual BILE TRA.ILS FUNDS application for bike trails funds to the State Department of Transportation. Chances of se- curing any of these funds is slim.
