HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-01-1977 Park Commission Minutes � � - � 't' CITY OF ORONO t PARK CO2�IISSION Regular meeting of the Orono Park Commission held November 1 , 1977: The Orono Park Commission met on the above date with the following members present: Chairman Tomlinson, Berglund, Relley, Watson and �ger. Absent: Lathrop. Also attending were Mayor Brad Van Nest and Councilman Norman Paurus. The minutes of the September 20, 1977 meeting MINUTES APPROVED were accepted. The commission welcomed new member Lee Erger. NEW NIEMBER: LEE ERGER The council will be asked to officially ap- point Mr. Erger to the commission at its next meeting. A motion by the coirnnission recom- mending the appointment of Mr. E�ger was passed. Chairman Tomlinson reported on the progress PROGRESS OF PRO JECTS: of current projects: 1 . ANTOINE PARK 1 . Equipment has been ordered for Antoine 2. BEDERWOOD PARK Park (Fagerness Point) by the city. A motion 3. BIKE TRAII,S was made and passed approving this purchase. 2. Scheduled grading in Bederwood Park can now proceed with the recent delivery of the city � s new front end loader. 3. Weather perm.itting, some preliminary grading for Bike Trails on Willow Drive, north of Highway 12 will be started this Fall. Mayor Van Nest suggested that the commission BIKE-HIKE TRAIL MAP TO draw up a Bike-Hike Trail Map for submission BE DESIGNID to the Hennepin County Highway Department for inclusion in their planning as roads for which the9 are responsible are repaved. The Sandy Beach issue, on which the corrnnission SANDY BEACH ISSUE deliberated at its last meeting, will be the sub ject of a public hearing at a future council meeting. Chairman Tomlinson will attend that hearing to support this commission's decision that the beach should not be closed. Chairman Tomlinson reported that a d.iscussion IANG LAKE COIINCIL - DAYTON with a member of the Long Lake Gouncil revealed PROPERTY that they were not aware of any available prop- erty next to the Dayton Property on Long Lake, and that their efforts were going to be directed toward co ntinued improvement of their current beach. I . . � . .� � REGULAR MEETING OF THE ORONO PARK COMMISSION HELD NOVEMBER 1 , 1 977 : Mayor Van Nest and the conunission discussed LAKE ACCESS FOR ORONO the problem of Lake Access for Orono citizens. CITIZENS The scope of the city�s ultimate responsibil- ities to its re9idents in this respect was explored. The biggest problem is maintaining public facilities which comply with state laws regarding public waters, while assuring that those who are paying for these facilities have most ready access to them. Comparison to other Minneton�a area communities was made. In further discussion with the Mayor, some LONG RANGE PI,A.NNING long range recreation facilities planning was touched on. Among them were population pro- jections Por the City, the Parks and Recreation Dedicated Funds Program and its alternates and the ultimate approval by the Metropolitan Cozzncil of our recreational planning.
