PaRK COI��I•1ISSION
Regular meetin� of the Orono Park Commission -
held August 1 b, 1 977.
The Orono Park Commission met on the above NEW P�IEMBER - PEGGY WATSON
date with the following members present:
Torilinson, Lathrop, Kelley and Ber�lu.nd.
Also present, Peg�y Watson, Tonkawa Road;
She will be greeted by the Council at the
August 2?_nd council meeting.
The new chairman of the Orono Park Conunission NEW CHAI�N - LEE
i s Lee Tomlinson. He will be appointed by the TOTZLINSOII
council at the August �2nd meeting.
Also in attendance was John Gerhardson, Public PLAYGPOUND EQUIPMII�T TN
Works Supervisor. He presented the following HACKBERRY PARK
report on the status of' pro jects: (1 ) Hack-
ber.ry Park : Playground equipment is complete�y
installed. (2) Tax forfeited land: List of TAX FORFEITED rAND
properties available, along with maps of same,
were presented for Park Commission comments.
(3) Plans to have schedule of planned park SCHEDULE OF PARK & BIKE
and bi?�e trail prQjects available for next TRAIL PRO JECTS
park commission meetin�. (�.) Passed on a
suggestion for Hac�berry Park grand opening
next spring (witn Optimist Clubts assistance. ) GR,�ND OPEATING
Cor�.Ynissioners engaged in a discussion of long LONG RANGE GOALS, POLICIES
range ooals and policies of the Park Commission.
It is the general consensus tna.t the Park
Commission and the City of Orono are at a
point in the development of the City where
some specific and ob�;ainable goals must be
defined regarding parks, trails and recreation
pro�rams for Orono. Chairman Tomlinson is
plannin� to meet with the Mayor and City
Administrator for fui.�tner guidance in this
area.
Two vacancies exist on the Park Comrnission. TWO V�CANCIES
An eff'ort will be made to fill these positions,
preferably from the southern area of Orono.
