Regular Meeting of the Orono Park Commission,
July 20, 1976 8:00 P.M.
The Orono Park Commission met on the above
date with the following members present:
Chairman Lathrop, Peasley, Leipold, Kallestad
and Hurr. Absent: Berglund, Oberhauser,
Opheim and Panuska. Councilmember Mary Butler
was also present.
Minutes from the last meeting were not avail- MINUTES
able.
The Park Commission heard further discussion BEDERWOOD PARK
about Bederwood Park. Gabriel Jabbour of
Tonkawa Road spoke of the need for a park for
kids in this area. Member Hurr presented
figures from the school census concerning
children to be served by an area park. There
are 114 children 0-5 years and SSl children
6-16 years.
Three families from Minnetonka Highlands (Gad-
baw, Henninger and one other) feel a need for
park space for their children. The Stubbs
Bay Giants T-ball team has to play their
games in Long Lake and could benefit by a
neighborhood park.
Mr. Kroll stated that he believes in parks,
but feels that this is a poor location, too
close to the Luce Line Trail and on a busy
street.
Nancy Kallestad moved, Leipold seconded, that JOINT DEMONSTRATION
the Park Commission recommend to the Council PROJECT
that they consider our participation in the
Joint Demonstration Project as printed in an
eight page report. Proposal was presented
by Fern Kubalsky. Motion, Ayes (5) - Nays
(0).
Chairman Lathrop moved, Kallestad seconded, PARK COMMISSION
to recommend to the Council a reduction of the MEMBERSHIP
number of Park Commission members from nine to
seven. Passed. Ayes (S) , Nays (0).
The Park Commission is concerned about Dutch
Elm disease and recommends a stepped-up pro-
gram of inspection and removal.
