I�Tarch 16, 19 7 6 The Orono Park Commissian met an the above date with the following members present: Chairman Lathrop, Berglund and ICallestad. Absento Leipoldo Oberhauser, Opheim, Panuska, and Peasleyo Also presenta Councilmember Butler, prospective Park Commission member Jo Ellen Hurr, and Roger Byers, Long Lake Park Commission member, The P2inutes from the last meeting were read 1�4INUTES and approved. Bill Sween, Eberhardt Company, has offered FAGERNESS POINT OFFER a parcel of land on Fagerness Point to the P�rk Commission for its tax value, The land would not be u�able as park property, so the o�fer was declined. Peasley arrived at 8s10 P,M, �,athrop moved, Kallestad seconded, to refer the land to the Council to see if the City would have any interest in it. t-2otion, Ayes (4) - Nays (0) . Chairman Lathrop offered some suggestions for BEDERI�OOD PARK renaming the Larson Property, Berglund explained the entire Stubbs Bay area was one known as Bederwood, approximately 80 years ago. I:allestad moved, Peasley seconded, to name the Larson Property, ]3ederwood. T�Iotion, Ayes (4) - Nays (0) o Chairman Lathrop reported that the police have PARI: SIGNS suggested the Park Commission erect signs on all of our park properties stating 'P10 Riotorized Vehicles Allowed' and designating the park name. Chairman Lathrop has donated his son's time to make some ced�r signs for this purpose. This would include swings, bike racks and climbers for several of our parks. Peasley reported �hat the play equipment at Baker Park may be coming available and could possibly be acquired for Orono. Sandbox areas were suggested as being needed. Woodchip walkways are also proposed. Chairman Lathrop reported that he approached STUBBS BAY P�IARINA the City Council regarding the purchase of Swimming Beach Stubbs Bay P-Zarina for use as a swimming beach. zt was decided to write a letter to ��e owner inquiring as to the price and availability of the marina. Jo Ellen Hurr, nike/Hike Committee member, BIKE/HIKE reported that there will be a Bike Ride Day, June 6, 1976, (or June 13, 1976, if bad weather, ) They will be meeting at the D�innetonka Art Center and the Orono Police will be conducting a Bike Safety Rodeo. The Commission hopes to have the trails marked at this timee The Bike/Hike �ommittee has asked for a contribution to the program, perhaps in purchasing Bike Safety Buttons to be awarded to each rider successfully completing the rodeo courseo Chairman Lathrop said he would check the park funds and report on the possibility of a contribution next meetinge Berglund moved, Kallestad seconded, to adjourn ADJOURNt•2ENT the meeting at 9 e 15 P.h7.
