July 10, 1975 The Orono Park Commission met on the above date with the following members presento Chairman Opheim, Kallestad, Lathrop, and Peasley. Absento Berglund, Hallowell, Kubalsky, Leipold, Oberhauser, and Panuska, The P�Iinutes of the Regular P•Zeeting of May 20, D�INUTES 1975, were read and approvedo Chairman Opheim reported that the Orono Council HACKBERRY PARK had approved the Hackberry Park plan and had also approved the installation of culverts under ��lillow Drive. Plans for adequate parking for the park were also discussed. Lathrop reported that there will be a bike BIKE PATH REPORT trail along Willow Drive when that road is upgraded in the near future. There was a discussion of a Grant-in-Aid for a bike trail along County Road #84. Opheim moved, Kallestad seconded, to ask the Council to approve the $500 expenditure to generate an estimate of the cost of construction of bike paths along County Roads #51 and #84 as recommended by the Orono Trails Committee. P�iotion, Ayes (4) - Nays (0) . Lathrop reported that an application for funding SNOt��OBILE TRAIL for the snowmobile trail from the Luce Line to County Road #84 has been submitted. The Bike Trails Committee has recommended bike BII{E RACICS racks Y�e placed at parks and beaches. Discussion of the various types of bike racks ensued, The Park Commission asks that the Trails Committee be more definitive of what types of bike racks they want and what the costs will be. Prior to the meeting, the members present SCOTT PROPERTY viewed the Scott property. The developers want to donate two acres in the southwest corner for park land. The land is too low for practical park use. The possibility of a bike trail along County Road #15 or the Burlington-Northern railroad bed was discussed as well as a cash donation in lieu of land offered. Chairman Opheim asked that during the next PARK DEVELOPP�iENT month all Park Commission members review Orono park lands and consider what recommendations they might offer for discussion at the next meeting, Peasley moved, Lathrop seconded, to invite the SKATING RINKS North Shore Recreation Council to consider the use of our non-hockey ice rinks for use in their figure skating program, r�2otion, Ayes (4) - Nays (0) . The s�Iinnesota Park and Recreation Association MITQIdESOTA PARK & has invited the Orono Park Commission to join. RECREATION ASSOCIATION Dues are $50. Opheim moved, Kallestad seconded, we join for a trial year. Motion, Ayes (4) - Nays (0) . Dpheim reported there have been complaints SANDY BEACH about inadequate parking for the orqanized swinuning classes at Sandy Beach. Discussion of alternatives followede limit use of beach for classes or provide adequate parking. It was decided to gather more information before taking any action.
