HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-25-1975 Park Commission Minutes r � CITY OF ORONO Regular P�2eeting of the Park Commission, 8:00 P.M. t�iarch 25, 1975 The Park Commission met on the above date with the following members presento Chairman Opheim, Berglund, Hallowell, Kubalsky, Lathrop, and Peasley. Also present: Otto Christiansen and Bob Callecand from the Hennepin County Park Reserve. Absente Kallestad, Leipold, Oberhauser, Panuska, and Romain. The Minutes of the regular meeting of P�IINUTES February 18, 1975, were read and approved. The Orono attitudinal survey for the Park ATTITUDINAL SURVEY Commission was reviewed. Otto Christiansen and Bob Callecand from the Hennepin County Park Reserve, helped to review the survey. Suggestions for survey: 1. The objective of the survey needs to be SURVEY QUESTIONNAIRE simple enough so people will respond and yet not so simple the survey will not accomplish its objective. 2o From a survey, you need to know what you want, 3o Somewhere you should include the kids attitude as well as parents. 4. PZail out, mail back surveys tend to have a very low response. 5o Could have a door to door distribution and pickup on an orgainzed basis. 6. Could.. have a random survey. 7. Need to know how often they went to park areas and were they s�tisfiede 8e Need to identify the neighborhood area for understanding needs. Part B 9. Rank in order of importance the facilities listed. How often have you participated in these activities in the last year and where do you go, nQighborhood, locally, outside local area? 13. When do you want to use facilities, day, night, week-ends? 14. Lighted courts, rinks? A discussion was held on the draft of the Park ORONO PARK PLAN Ylan for the City. lo Identify needs according to neighborhoods. 2o Subtract what you have. 3, Look at what you should add, in priority. A discussion on the Joint Park Commission resolution RESOLUTION Lrom Minnetrista, RZound, Orono, and Spring Park JOINT PARK COMMISSIONS �aaa held. It was recommended that: 1, A statement be inserted following the sentence ending, "estimate of cost" to read "participation in this commission does not imply commitment to Gny expenditure of funds �aithout the specific ��pproval of the individual Councils, " 2, The words, "and treasurer" be stricken. 3o The phrase "Park Commission and/or Council as appropriate" be added following the words, "submitted to"e TIallowell moved, Peasley seconded, that the Commission recommend participation in the Joint �ark Commission resolution to the Council. Motion, Ayes (6) - Nays (0) . Lathrop presented a display-art-design book that BIKE/HIKE BOOK he has started for the Bike/Hike Trail Committee. ihe Trails committee requestS �hat a feasibility BIKE/HIKE TRAIL check be made on putting a connecting bike/hike County #135 trail from the end of th� shoulder that is to be ��idened on County #135 around the corner east along Bayside, County #84 and north on Stubbs Bay to the Luce Line. This would give us a trail that definitely goes someplace. There is also potentially a very dangerous corner at the junction of County Roads #135 & #84. Lathrop reported tllat Mrs, Spencer who lives on that corner might be willing to give an easement to the City for the b=_kes to wind down at that corner. ' .
