Regular Azeeting of the Park Comm3,ssion, 8:00 P.M.
November 19, 1974
The Park Commission met on the above date
with the following members present: Chairman
Opheim, Berglund, Hallowell, Lathrop, Leipold,
Kubalsky, and Peasley. Absent: Burns,
Oberhauser, and Panuska. Also present:
Councilman Welsh, Nancy Kallestad, and Bill
Wear, president of the Lake Niinnetonka Optimist
Club.
The Nlinutes of the Regular Meeting of October 15, PIINUTES
1974, were approved as read.
Welsh, reporting on the Council's pos•ition on SNOWMOBILE TRAILS
snowmobile trails, said they would consider
snowmobile trails if the PaXk Commission
presented an appropriate proposal. A discussion
was held. Lathrop reported that the Skip Drifters
will probably complete the necessary arrangements
for the trail from the Luce Line to Baker Park
in a couple of weeks.
Mrs. Nancy Kallestad, 780 Old Crystal Bay Road, PROPOSED APPOINTMENT
applied for membership on the Park Commission. Nancy Kallestad
4rs. Kallestad was interviewed by the members.
Berglund moved, Leipold seconded, that Nancy
Kallestad's name be presented to the Council
for membership on the Park Commission to replace
Pat Wysocky. Motion, Ayes (7) - Nays (0) .
Councilman Welsh left the meeting.
A letter was read from the Westonka League BIKE/HIKE TRAILS
o£ Women Voters expressing their concern over
the need for bike/hike trails along the main
highways of the City. Opheim read his reply
to them thanking them for their interest and
suggesting they consid��r participating on a
committee to establish a plan for bike/hike
trailse
Bill Wear, representing the Lake Minnetonka HACKBERRY PARK
Optimist Club, presented a plan for putting Skating Rink
a skating ring into Hackberry Park. A
discussion followed.
Leipold moved, Hallowell seconded, that we
:ecommend to the Council that the Lake Minnetonka
Optimist Club be allowed to put in an appropriate
_.�ating rink at Hackberry Park, assuming that
all health regulations are met, in accordance
with the plan presentd by Mr. Wear. Motion,
Ayes (7) - Nays (0) .

Peasley volunteered to work with the Optimist OPTIMIST CLUB
Club and report to the Park Commission.
Ophei.m reported he gave a speech to the Orono ORONO CENTRAL PARK
Lion's Club soliciting their help for develop- Larson Property
ment o£ the Larson property, Orono Central Park.
Mr. V. Johnson, of Applegarden Road, has offered LADTn (�rnrn • ;.�-
to qive the property at the junction of Casco Cas�� Yoinz h�ad &
Point �ioad and Casco Avenue to the City for Casco Avenue
park land. The Commission members were asked
to look over the property. Opheim will. check on
the financial liabilities.
Oberhauser and Hallowell attended the Orono NORTH SHORE GYMNASTICS
School Board meeting on November 11,1.974,
and presented the Park Commission's resolution.
The Board seemed to be more supportive to the
gymnastics program at this time; however,
because it was a legal holiday, no final vote
was taken.
Opheim wi11 try to attend a public hearing on METROPOLITAN COUNCIL
proposed Recregtion Open Space Development
Guide next Tuesday in St. Paul, Minnesota.
