Regular P�ieeting of the Park Commission, 8:00 P.M.
October 15, 1974
The Park Commission met on the above date with
the following members present: Chairman Opheim,
Berglund, Burns, Hallowell, Kubalsky, and
Oberhauser. Absent: Leipold, Panuska,
Peasley, and Wysocky. Also present: Helen
Toward and Diane Dunlap representing the North
Shore Gymnastics Association and Brian Peterson
Woody Grandstaff, Walter Lathrop, representing
the Long Lake Skip Drifters Club.
The P�inutes of the September 17, 1974 meeting MINUTES
were read and approved.
Ophei.m reported that the Larson property is in LARSON PARK PROPERTY
the final stages of acquisition. The low land Filling
is being filled with sewer digging. This will
then be levelled and covered with black dirt
that has been scraped off and saved.
Opheim read a letter he had written to the LARSON PARK PROPERTY
Orono Lions Club informing them about the Orono Lions Club
',arson property and inquiring if they had an
interest in helping to furnish facilities for
this park.
It has been suggested that fill might also CASCO CIRCLE PARK FILL
be added to the south side of the Casco Circle
park in order to create a larger play area.
The Council passed a resolution to apply for the TAX DELIN�UENT PROPERTY
wedge of property north of the Luce Line Trail 115 Stubbs Bay Road S.
and ajoining the Larson property as it has
become tax delinquent.
At the recommendation of the Council, a letter SNOWMOBILES
was written to the DNR inquiring about the use Luce Line Trail
of the Luce Line Trail west of the Stubbs
Bay Road. Particular reference was made to
the use of snowmobiles,
The money for land acquisition for 1975 has BUDGET CUT - 1975
been cut from $19,500 to $12,500.

the North Shore Gymnastics Association, CLUB
presented the problem the association has
in finding space ti�here they can meet an� hold
classes. This is a non-profit organization
that has around 300 students, most of whom are
from the City of Orono. This year they are
meeting at the Orono Middle School, but are
looking for space to enable them to continue
in future years.
A discussion followed. The possibility of a
new facility is further away than could be
considered helpful at this time. Endorsement
and/or sponsorship by the Park _Commission
might be considered after a stuc� �f the
association and the need for gymnastics in
the area.
Oberhauser moved, Hallowell seconded, the
following resolution: The Park Commission
feels the gymnastics program is very wDrth
while and we feel the Orono School Board should
cooperate to the maximum extent to facilitate
the program. Motion, Ayes (6) - Nays (0) .
The resolution will be presented to the Orono
School Board meeting by Oberhauser and
Hallowell on November 11, 1974.
Peterson, Grandstaff, and Lathrop, representing SNOWMOBILE TRAIL
the Long Lake Skip Drifters Snowmobile Club,
spoke on the problem of snowmobiling in the
City of Orono and ways they are trying to help
solve thes� problems.
They would like to arrange tr�ils through the SN06+IMOBILE TRAIL
City in order to minimize the problem and are
willing to work to maintain the trail and/or
trails.
The trails can be paid for by a grant-in"'aid GRANT-IN-AID PROGRAM
program from the State with 65$ coming from
the State and 35� from the City. The snow-
mobilers hope to contribute their time which
would cover the major share of the City's 35$.

Berglund moved, Burns se�onded, that we accept
her resignation with sincere regrets. Motion,
Ayes (5) - Nays (0) .
Kubalsky moved, Berglund seconded, that Walter NOMINATION
Lathrop be nominated to fill Mastny's place on Walter Lathrop
the Co^:mission which expires December 31, 1975.
Motion, Ayes (5) - Nays (0) .
