Regular r�7eeting of the Park Commission, 8 e 00 P.I�i.
August 26, 1974
�ze Park Commission met on the above date with
the following members present: Chairman Opheim,
Berglund, Burns, Hallowell, Kubalsky, Leipold,
Oberhauser, and Z^�ysockye Absenta I�Zastny,
Panuska, Peasleyo Also present: Jim Blumendahl,
from DIJR, residents fro;n the Sandy Beach area,
A1 Heinz, 1�Iinnetonka Beach, Brian Peterson and
��alter Lathrog�, Long Lake Skip Drifters Club,
A ��etition was presented by neighborhood PETITION
residents of Sandy Beach stating: "The Sandy Beach Parking
undersigned are opposed to any changes in the
i-laple Avenue swimming beach area that will
make this area more attractive for motorized
traffico We believe the proper use of this
area is for local residents within walking
or bilcing distancee" The petition was signed
by 23 residents representing 15 families.
Opheim explained the background of the parking
problem and why the Commission was considering
making more parking places. A discussion
followed concerning the residents grievances
on parking, garbage, noise, late night use,
�olice patrol, ana the asphalt.
Oberhauser moved, Burns seconded, that we do
not install additional parking at the Sandy
Beach area at this time. I�otion, Ayes (8) -
i�Iays (0) .
Ku.balsky was appointed to look into the PARKING STICKERS
possibility of parking stickers for local
residents. It was suggested the nolice be
contacted for suggestions on patrolling and
liandling parking problems,
Jim Blumendahl, representing the DNR, tahich is LUCE LINE TRAIL
in charge of the Luce Line Trail, discussed
with the Park Commission the possible uses and
iacilities of the Luce Line, including parking
facilities. Discussion followedo
Oberhauser moved, �^lysocky seconded, that no
parking facilities be constructed at the inter-
section of the Stubbs Bay Road and the Luce
Line Traila I�iotion, Ayes (7) - IVays (0) .

It was suggested tha� the DNR look at land at
the intersections of Highway #12 and the Luce
Line Trail and County Road #19 and the Luce
Line Trail,

Club, were present to encourage the Park
Commiss�.on to help solve the problems of
snow�iobi le s.
A le�t�r was read from P�ir, K, Ed. Younger to
the Club expressing his appreciation by snow-
mobilers for the proper use of his land whi.ch
he has allowed them to use as a designated
trial area.
��r. Peterson and I�ir. Lathrop would like to see
the Village consider rewriting the snotamobile
�rdinance in the near future. A snowmobile trail
from Stubbs Bay to IIaker Park is presently being
threatened by a possible subdivision of property.
Opheim suggested that the Club come up with a
pro�osal to mend the part of the trail that will
be broken by the subdivision.
Opheim reported that 11e has been contacted by SKI TOT�TKA
Lee Primus, owner of Ski Tonka, to see if the
Village would be interested in acquiring that
area for a �;�ublic park. The Commission members
are requested to look over the area this month
and report their opinions on the possibilities
of using this sight as a recreational area.
Burns handed out a list of park plan questions I,�KE-FROVT PROPERTY
and tasks for study, A recommendation for a
policy concerning subdividing of lake-front
land and a listing of rationale behind the
�olicy was also handed out. The Park Commission
is to study these proposals for the next meeting.
':ubalsky reported on some bike safety rules and BIKE SAFETY
said she would continue working on the bike safety
problem throughout the winter<
