Tiie Park Commission met on the above date
wit�i the following members nresent: Chairman
tastiiy, Hallowell , Jarl , Ogla��d, Op;ieim, and
:',tysocl:y. Also present: Donna Carlton and
S.iieila '_�ozar from the Human Rights Commission,
t�ie Ciiarles Elliott family, and Dick Benso:�.

Siieila Kozar spoke on the great neecl for a ilEi��IORIAL
piayground area in Orono, especially in tile Park Fund
idavarre section. The Charles Elliott far�lily
iias memorial money for Bill Elliott tliat
�iiey :eould like to use to start a memorial
fuiia for playground and/or park area.
Oalancl moved, Hallowell seconded, tliat we
estanlisa a memorial fund for park use,
s�tarting with the memorials ti�at 3iave
accumulated for Bill E1liott, :iotion,
Ayes (7) - Nays (0) .
Tiie fund will be put into an accouiit at the
lv'avarre First ilational Bank. It �vill be
earmarked for par�: areas in tiie Village of
Orono and open to anyone �vlio �aould care to
contribute.

committee on land acquisition investigate the
ilavarre reg.,ion for park lancl ivi-tn special

A discussion was held on the golf course .
At present, i,ie greens }iave been re�ult
and a lot of tiling work f inished. For tiie
future, we need to consider the well and
trlacktopping of tiie drive. Recommendations
for the �olf course need to be completed by -�
August, 1973. Tlie Parl: Commission should
concern itself witli promotion and land
acquisition.
The staff is employed by the Village and
reports to ilick BensQn. Joaii Lattin is
Presently in charge of scheduling ancl Dave
Streater is in char�e of the greens .
A discussion was held on the bu�get and FINAiJCES
financial situtation of the Par;: Commission.

contact tiie Long Lak� Council about putting
up the �olf course sign near I.ighway #12
and Orono Orcharu Road,
Tlie bus trip to observe nresent and nossible BUS TRIP
park lands taill be jtiediiesday, June 20, 1973,
at 6: 30 P.i�i. The bus will leave from an:!
return to the golf course . Invitations �,rill
be issued to the Council, PlanninU Commission,
Parl: Commission, Red Dai�iels aiiu any otiier
person w;io has a special interest in parks .
A complaint �aas made that peonle are launching CASCO POINT BEACH
boats from the area of Casco Point Beach. The
posts and cliains have disapl�eared. Dic';
I3enson r�ill replace them.
