VILLAGE OF ORONO
- Regular meeting of the Park Commissian, 8;00 P.�4.
February 10, 1970
The Park Commission met on the above date
with the following members present : Chair-
man Dorrel, Jarl , Jones , Larson, Panuska,
Parten, Smith, tVhite, and Councilmare
Butterfield. Absent: Fahlin , Ogland, and
Wysocky.
Chairman Derrel stated the need for a SECR�TARY
secretary. Mrs. Theodore L. Jones was
nominated and elected.
Chairman Dorrel resigned as chairman anc� a RESIGNATION
nominating committee �vas appointe�l. The
nominating committee consists of the
following: tV,'iite, Larson, and Parten.
The purposes o� the Commission were then PURPOSES OF PARK COidMISSION
presented by Dorrel as outlined by the
di llage Council. They are as fo llo�,rs :
a) To make written recommend.ations on
parks and playgrounds anc� acnuisition
of parcels of land to be used for
recreation in the tTillage of Orono.
b) To make written reports on the goals
of the Commission.
c) To act as a fact-finding committee anc?
look into the needs of Orono as to
recreation in the future.
Discussion was held on a survey and maps 19b4 F, 1965 VILLAGE �IAPS
that had been drawn up in 1�54 F, 1965 by
Brauer and Associates as to projectecl needs
and future population of tiie Village. It
was requested that tl�ese be located and
presented at the next meeting of tjle Park
Commission. The projected population for
Orono in �1985 is 15,000.
Jarl moved, lVhite seconcled, to have tlie I�ILL SCT'�OL PLAYGROUND
Village Council approach t}ie Orono Scliool
Board on the possibility of purchasing the
land that is now tlie Hill School nlaygrouncl
area. Disci�ssion follotaed as to ia;iether it

Council laoking into this problem, since i�re

The motion and second were withdrawn. HILL SCHOOL PLAYGROUND
Smith moved, Jarl seconded, that a committee
be formed to contact the Orono School
District to discuss the status of the
building and Iand involved in the Hill
School complex. A•�otion, Ayes (4) - Nays (0) .

Discussion �vas held on the Hackberry play HACKBERRY PLAYGR011ND
area concerning the need for d.irt ancl
�ra�ling. The c{uestion was raised as to the
possibility of using �1,000, presently
budgeted by the Village £or playground
equipment , £or fill. It was reco _���ended
that the Village Engineer and Road Denartment
grade the existing area in the spring and
revaluate the amount of dirt and work needec�.
Dr. Panuska was asked to locate the exact `�ILLS' ESTATE
location of the property intend.ed for
recreation in the Mills ' estate.
i�qr. tiVhite brought up past discussion of SAGA I�ILL
Possible available land near a church at
Saga Hill. c�4r. Jarl will loo?c into this.
i�r. �fartin was asked to get infvrmation on FINANCI�G
the availability of federal money.
There was discussion on the possibility o£ HORSE TRAIL
acquiring railroad lan� for a horse trail.
