A few days ago I visited Union Cemetery in Long Lake/Orono
and was appalled at what I saw.
The cemetery is an embarrassment to those whom are buried
there and a sinking heart to families members.
It is a disgrace on how it looks. The grass has not been cut in
weeks, grass has gone to seed and weeds galore.
Does anyone care?

This is a volunteer cemetery with an independent Board. Neither Orono nor Long Lake have
anything to do with the operation of the cemetery.
As far as "spreading of ashes", there are no State laws prohibiting this action, but it would
be considered "littering" and would be a violation if caught. Ashes could be spread on
private property with no consequence - with the owner's permission. Ashes are not toxic.
People sometimes consider spreading ashes on top of another grave. This would require
permission from the cemetery.
