Orono MN 55356 Dear Mr. Kuruvilla: I am writing in regards to your property at 850 Wayzata Boulevard West in the City of Orono. I met onsite with a representative from Elmer Peterson Company yesterday, as I understand, your request. The site visit was to determine whether or not the septic tanks are up to code and if the septic system needs to be brought up to code. The existing tanks are not water tight and have an earthen bottom. This is not allowed and has been an illegal system by State Code since the 1970's. The drain field has already been identified by this Office as non-compliant do to lack of groundwater separation. The system must be brought up to code by September 15, 2005. I would suggest, however, that the system be updated before the start of the school year to avoid construction equipment and open holes with children present. Please contact a designer to begin the site evaluation/design process and when that has been done it needs to be submitted to this Office for approval. Once approved, normally a day or two, the design can be given to the installer for the issuance of a permit. If you have any questions, feel free to call. Sincerely, Willie Gibbs R.S. Wayzata MN 55391 Dear Mr. Kuruvilla: I am writing in regards to the above addressed property and the requirement to update the septic system. I wrote to you on June 15, 2005 explaining that the existing system did not meet code and must be updated. I advised you to try and have the system brought into compliance by the start of the school year. You were given until September 15, 2005 to comply. I did not follow-up at that time since you were working with Rusty Olson on completing a septic system design. I spoke with Mr. Olson on November 28, 2005 about the status of the design. He told me that installing a water meter had been discussed and that he was on hold until he found out what the water usage turned out to be. I am assuming that the water meter was installed and that someone has been recording the daily water flows. If daily flows are not taken then the designer will still have to "guestimate" what the anticipated peak flow would be. The septic system must be brought into compliance by June 15, 2006. This date will have provided you with one full year to update the system. That is more than ample time. If the system is not updated by that date I will proceed with legal action and revocation of the school charter/license due to insufficient sanitary facilities. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Sincerely, Willie Gibbs R.S. ISTS Manager Telephone(952)249-4600 . Fax (952)2494616 w"yhw.ci.orono.m in.us
