ORONO CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
Monday, March 25, 2013
5:30 p.m.
Present: Mayor Lili McMillan, Council Members Lizz Levang and Aaron Printup; representing Staff
were City Administration lessica Loftus, Finance Director Ron Olson and Police Chief Correy
Farniok.
Council discussed a rotation policy for the Planning Commission Chair/Vice Chair. Council is in favor of a
two year policy instead of a three year policy allowing for more opportunity for Planning Commissioners
to be asked to chair. Direction was given to the City Administrator to be the person to speak with the
Planning Commissioners, the Council identifies as possible candidates for Chair/Vice Chair, regarding
their interest in taking on the role.
Administrator Loftus noted at the regular meeting of February 25`h the City Council voted to table the
Building and Planning Department discussion to a work session. Discussion ensued regarding the
operations of the building department including the current septic program. There was discussion on
how the septic program has evolved throughout the years and whether it is still providing a service to
those citizens who pay the annual fee. Eliminating the septic fees would impact the yearly revenue for
the building department's budget. After deliberations of how the Department should function in the
future, Mayor McMillan requested job descriptions be drafted by function for each position in an
updated model of the Building and Planning Department.
Police Chief Correy Farniok updated the Council on security improvements that are moving forward,
including the installation of surveillance cameras. Farniok provided information on the three estimates
he received for a space study in the police department. There was consensus that Farniok should
provide his recommendation for approval at the upcoming April 8th meeting.
There were no comments regarding Information Update items.
The meeting closed at 6:55 p.m.
