RE: Barn on Stubbs Property
3020 Watertown Road
This property was inventoried by Mn/DOT in 1994. The structure was listed on the inventory as an
example of early farming in the area, according to Sarah Jordan-Beimers at the Minnesota Historical
Society.
To determine the significance of the buildings, a phase II evaluation would be needed. The state
office has a list of contract historians that can prepare phase H studies.

EVA DATION AND ANALYSIS
HISTORIC CONTEXT: Railroads and Agricultural Development, 1870-1940.
HISTORICAL NARRATIVE: Farming has been the basis of the region's economy
since the arrival of Euroamerican settlers in the 1850s and 1860s. . The
production of wheat for urban markets dominated agriculture through the 1870c,..
With a mixed pattern of general farming and dairying gradually coming to
prominence around the turn of the century.
SIGNIFICANCE: This property may be significant for its association with
early, developmental patterns of farming in the region. Although the broad
outlines of this history have been sketched, its specific development is
poorly known. Nor is there substantiated information about the relation Of
particular farming patterns and property type development, It may also be
significant as a now rare example of a once-common important architectural
type.
