Re: Greenhouse Permit
Dear Mr. Dickey:
We recently discussed the need for a building permit for a
greenhouse on your property.
Since your property is classified agricultural for tax
purposes your greenhouse may not need to meet building code
requirements, however, zoning codes are enforced on agricultural
land. Therefore setbacks from property lines, size limitations
and so forth must be met.
Checking with Jeanne Mabusth and the Orono City Code, a
commercial greenhouse on your property would not be a permitted
use but a conditional use, requiring a conditional use permit.
If the greenhouse is not put to commercial use, it would be
classified as an accessory structure and subject to ordinances
relating to accessory uses on residential property. Please meet
with zoning staff to discuss this use as soon as possible or
remove the greenhouse structure by May 1, 1991.
If you have any questions, contact Jeanne Mabusth at 473-
7357 .
