Dear Mr. Knight:
The current septic system at 425 Tonkawa Rd. must be replaced or repaired to meet current codes.
The property is within the Shoreland District and City Code requires that existing septic systems
in these areas conform to current standards. The septic system was inspected on September 29,
1993 and found to;be non-conforming. The City Council determined that all areas that will not
be sewered in the near future must repair non-conforming septic systems by December 31, 1996.
The repair of this septic system could be accomplished by either connection to city sewer or the
replacement of the septic system. Our records indicate that this property lies within the MUSA
area and sewer is available to this property. For unknown reasons the property was not sed
for s ut a stub was ins rder to connect to the sewer, an assessment fee
Sfl per frontage foot (use 21 fee A Sewer Availability Charge (SAC) o na
permit ee regwre . Tlie total connection charges are $9,164.2 ie
physical connection costs (call a plumber). As the property is within the MUSA area and a stub
is available, the City favors connection to the sewer to the replacement of the septic system.
The replacement of the septic system could also be an option to remedy the existing non-
confurining septic system. As the property lies within the MUSA area, the City Council must
approve the installation of a septic system in a severed zone. This alternative would cost between
$8,000 to $12.000 for a typical three or four bedroom system. Therefore, no appreciable savings
would be observed by installing a replacement septic system.
