Box 66 kE88 J 2750 Kelley Parkway Orono, MN 55356 Crystal Bay, MN 55323-CO66 Dear Mr. Knight: The current septic system at 425 Tonkawa Rd. must be replaced or repaired to meet current codes. The property is within the Shoreland District and City Code requires that existing septic systems p p ert y in these areas conform to current standards. The septic system was inspected on September 29, 1993 and found to be non-conforming. The City Council determined that all areas that will not be sewered in the near future must repair non-conforming septic systems by December 31, 1996. The repair of this septic system could be accomplished by either connection to city sewer or the iproperty replacement of the septic system. Our records indicate that this lies within the MUSA area and sewer is available to this property. For unknown reasons the property was not assessed for sewer, but a stub was installed. In order to connect to the sewer, an assessment fee of 5 plus ,A per frontage foot (use 21 feet). A Sewer Availability Charge (SAC) of 4&619-and a (v n charges are $9,164.20 plus the permit fee of $35.50 is also required. The total connectio g within the MUSA area and a stub physical connection costs (call a plumber). As the property is is available, the City favors connection to the sewer to the replacement of the septic system. The replacement of the septic system could also be an option to remedy the existing non- conforming septic system. As the property lies within the MUSA area, the City Council must approve the installation of a septic system in a sewered zone. This alternative would cost between $8,000 to $12,000 for a typical three or four bedroom system. Therefore, no appreciable savings would be observed by installing a replacement septic system. Please conctact me at the City Offices if there are any questions. Sincerely, Stephen Weckman On-Site Systems Manager Telephone (612) 473-7357 9 FAX 473-0510
