A. Scope of Services
The scope of our services was limited to:
Visually examining accessible areas and identifying the locations of suspect asbestos-
containing building materials(ACBM),lead,poly-chlorinated biphenyl's(PCB),
mercury,and other miscellaneous hazardous materials.
• Collecting and analyzing representative bulk samples of materials suspected of
containing asbestos. Examples of materials to be collected for analysis include, but are
not limited to:floor tile,linoleum flooring,wall and ceiling plaster,suspended and
acoustical ceiling tile, sheetrock, thermal system insulation, textured ceiling material and
fireproofing.
• Documenting ACBM current conditions and quantities.
• Conducting limited lead-based paint testing of painted surfaces suspected of containing
lead(if applicable). Testing will be accomplished using a Niton X-ray fluorescence
(XRF)spectrum analyzer.
• Generating a final report documenting the sample locations, analysis results,ACBM
quantities,conditions,and recommendations.
B. Site Description
The subject of this hazardous building materials inspection was the building, located at 3655 Togo
Road in Navarre,Minnesota. It is a one-story structure with a basement level comprising
approximately 2,000 square feet. The original date of construction is unknown, but is estimated to be
in the 1970s.
C. Results
C.I. Asbestos
C.1.1. Asbestos-Containing Materials
Ten(10)bulk samples from 6 homogenous materials were collected on May 16,2005,and submitted
to our laboratory for analysis. No asbestos was detected in any of the samples.
C.1.2. Non-Asbestos-Containing Materials
The following is a summary of building materials found to contain no asbestos or materials that
contain one percent or less asbestos(non-asbestos-containing materials by regulatory definition).
• Ceiling texture
• 2-foot by 4-foot ceiling panel
• Wall texture
• Sheetrock and associated joint compound
• Linoleum flooring and adhesive
• Asphalt roof shingles and tar paper

Table I lists the homogenous material sample numbers, sample locations, suspect material
descriptions, and the analysis results for each sample.
C.2. Lead-Based Paint
A visual inspection of painted surfaces on the interior and exterior of the building was conducted
on May 16,2005. No peeling or flaking paint was observed. Therefore,no lead-in-paint testing
was conducted with the x-ray fluorescence(XRF)field portable analyzer.
CA Miscellaneous Hazardous Materials
A visual inspection for miscellaneous hazardous materials that require separate handling and disposal
prior to building renovation/demolition was also performed on May 16,2005. The following is a list
of the items documented.
• Fluorescent lamps
• Light ballasts
• Exit Signs
• Emergency lights
• Thermostats
• Furnace thermo couplers
• Miscellaneous paints and stains
• Fire extinguishers
• Door closers with oil
• Cleaning supplies and paints
D. Discussion
In the case of building demolition, all of the hazardous materials listed in Section C.3 must be
separated from the general demolition waste and their hazardous components must be recycled or
disposed of in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
E. Remarks
In any building the potential exists for hazardous building materials to be located inside walls, above
ceilings, under floors, buried underground, and other inaccessible areas. This inspection attempted to
identify hazardous building materials in these inaccessible areas. However,it was not feasible to
inspect 100 percent of these areas. Therefore,Braun Intertec cannot be held responsible for the
presence of any such hidden materials. The renovation/demolition contractor and other contractors
involved in the project should be made aware of this potential. If previously unidentified suspect
hazardous building materials are exposed during their activities they should be sampled and analyzed
for content prior to any disturbance.

Services performed by Braun Intertec specialists for this project have been conducted in a manner
consistent with that level of care ordinarily exercised by members of the profession currently
practicing in this area under similar budget and time constraints. No warranty, expressed or implied,
is made.
Bulk asbestos analysis was conducted in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency's
(EPA)Method 40 CFR,Chapter 1,Part 763,Subpart F,Appendix A(7/1/87 Edition). Detailed
quality control information is available upon request.
Bulk samples are retained at our laboratory for 60 days and then disposed of unless instructed
otherwise.

RE: BL-05-02065
Dear Mr.Gregg Kruse
Bulk Asbestos Analysis Report
The microscopy department of Braun Intertec Corporation received your analytical request on 05/16/05. The
objective of this analysis was to determine the presence of asbestos using polarized light microscopy(PLM)and
to determine the percent of asbestos and non-asbestos fibrous components by calibrated visual area estimation.
Analytical results are summarized on the following laboratory report.
Methodology
Bulk asbestos analysis is conducted in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency's(EPA)methods
40 CFR,Part 763,Ch. 1,Subpart F,Appendix A(7-1-87 Edition)and EPA/600/R-93/116.All analyses are in
compliance with the quality control procedures specified by the methods. All samples are examined for
homogeneity. If a sample contains more than one layer, each layer is analyzed individually.Total fibrous
content is calculated for joint compound/wallboard systems by combining layer results according to their
percentages of the total sample.Detailed quality control information is available upon request.
Remarks
Braun Intertec is accredited by the National Institute of Standards and Technology's(NIST),National Voluntary
Laboratory Accreditation Program(NVLAP)for selected test methods for bulk asbestos identification under
Accreditation Number 101234.This report in no way constitutes or implies product certification, approval or
endorsement by NVLAP or any other agency of the U.S.Government.This test report relates only to the items
submitted for analysis.
