Dear Mr. Syverson:
As per our c=yersation on November 15, I am writing to summarize our pond
clean-up project a 520 Tatte�rs�e2
Orono. I have met with the city of Orono and
their main concern is t is OK with the project.
The project begin because of a need to replace an old culvert under the drive that
would freeze up every winter and cause the runoff to drain over the drive. At that time
we felt it would be a good idea to do some pond clean up. The pond was originally dug
by one of the previous owners and was a small berm or dam was formed on the marsh
side of the pond. It was made with the existing soil and did not hold water at a constant
level, but would fluctuate with the water in the marsh. This left long periods of time
where the mud bank were unsightly and would wash into the pond. We determined that
we could hold the edge better by placing boulders around some of the perimeter of the
pond.
Boulders were placed around part of the perimeter of the pond and the "berm" that
was on the marsh side was regraded to allow us to set the boulders. The soil was so wet
that it could not be graded very well this fall. We plan to smooth out the soil and seed the
area in the spring as soon and conditions allow.
