1. Applications for septic system permits may be mailed or submitted in person at the City
Offices; however, permits will not be mailed out. The permit must be picked up in
person at the Ciry Offices and work must not begin ualess the permit card is on the job
site.
2. Permits will be issued only to contractors holding a City of Orono Septic System
Installers License.
3. All work must be done in accordance �vith the approved septic system design. Desi�n
reports are not considered approved unless accompaaied by the "City of Orono Septic
System Approval" cover sheet si�ned by the City Inspector.
4. The following inspections will be required for all septic systems:
A. Pre-inscallation site inspection to include i.nspector, installer, and general contractor.
B. Tank installation prior to coverin;.
C. Drainfield trench installation prior to coverin�. For mounds, inspection is required
afrer rough-up but prior to sand placement (sand will be jar tested for silt content),
and a�ain during pressure distribution pipin� installation in the rock bed.
D. Final inspection to verify proper fmal cover dep[hs and to verify that all pump station
(where required) components are functional and comply with codes.
5, Individual holding N1PCA Installer Certificate shall be present during inspectioas: A 24-
hour notice is required for all inspections.

l. This syster;� is designed for a 4 bedroon home with a maximun daily flow
of 45G7 gallons/day. soil borings indicate the seasonally saturated
soil at a depth of 12 to 18 inches below the surface which requires a
depth of 2. g feet of clean, coarse sanc� beneath the rock bed . (Using dirty
or rine sand would increase the possibility of a failed systen. }
2. Avoid compaction of the septic area before, duriny and after
construction of i:he nouncl . Parking vehicles in this area will conipact the
soil and increase the possibility of this system failing and you have
little or no alternatives to this site .
3 . I suggest pumping all tanks every two years , three years at tne most .
tr,is is an inex�ensive way to avoid 'the possiqility of solids being
introduced to the system which shorten the life of the system.
4 . P�tost im�ortantly choose your contractor with care . Conscientious
construction �rocedures have a great bearing on whether or not your system
performs as expected . t�iost permittiny authorities have a list of licensed
contractors approved to work in your area. Check references.

(approved-disapproved) (date)
with the following comments: Sewer lines must be insulated under the driveway
to prevent freezing. The septic tanks should be kept shallow to avoid
the water table.
THIS IS NOT A PERMIT. This is a design approval form which must accompany the site plan. A permit must
be issued to a licensed septic contractor prior to installation. A list of currently licensed septic contractors is
enclosed.
NOTICE TO INSTALLERS: Any changes to the approved plans and specs must have prior approval of the
Inspector (473-7357). Call for inspections 24 hours in advance.
ALL DRAINFIELD AREAS MUST BE FENCED OFF prior to building site excavation and fencin�must remain
in place until final site grading. Approval to pour footings will not be granted until the Inspections Department
has verified that primary and alternate sites are adequately protected.
NO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC OF ANY KIND (cars, trucks, earth moving equipment, etc.) is allowed within 20'
of tested drainfield sites either before or after system construction. Compaction of these areas could render them
unusable prohibiting the timely completion and or limiting the long term use of the property.
A site copy will be available at the City Of�ces for the septic contractor.

1. Avoid compactior• of mound area before, during and
after construction
2. Verify before drilling that no septic tanks or septic areas
are with/n a 50 foot radius of proposed well location.

3. Verify before construction that no shallow wells are within
100 feet, or deep wells within 50 feet of proposed septic
tanks or mound area.
4. To extend the life of septic system, pump septic tanks a
minimum of every 2 years.
