General Instructions:
I. You may ap� lv for septic system permits by- m�i� or.in person at the
City offices. However, per�.ts will not be mailed ouz and m�s� be
pic?�ed up in person at the City offic�s.
2. Pe=-mits are not valid until you receive a permit card.
3 . Work must not begin unless the permit card is available on the job
site. �
4. Permits will be issued only to contractors holding a City of Orono
Septic Syste� Installer' s Licanse.
5 . A?1 work must be done in accordance with the approned septic syste�n
design. Design re�orts are not considered a�proved unless accflm�anied
by tne "City o= Orono Septic Syste� Approval" cover sheet signed by
the City Inspector.
6. The following ins�ections will be reauired for all septic systems :
a) Pre-installation site ins�ection to include inspector, installer,
an3 general cor.tractor.
b ) Tank installat�on prior to coveriag.
c) Drainiieid t_enez �..,s�a�i�-ze-^- p�'== �o cover�r_g. (r^or mounds,
inspection is reguired after rough-up but prior to sand
placement, and again during pressure distribution piping
instal lation in the roc?c bed.}
d) Final inspection to ve�ify proger final cover depths and to
verify that aIl pumg station (where required) cvmponents are
functional and com�ly wi�.� codes.
7. Individual holding MPC� Installer Certificate shall be present during
all inspec�ions. 24-hou� notic� is required for aIl inspections .

until the Inspections Department has verified that primary aTid alternate sites are
adequately protected.
AO VSHICDLAR TRAFFIC OF ANY 1CIND (cars, trucks, earth moving equipment, etc.) is allowed
within 20' of tested drainfield sites either before or after system construction. This
applies to the lot you are working on and all adjacent lots. You could be heid liable for
damaging sites on neighboring lots.

This On-Site Sewage Treatment System is Designed for a Type 1, four
bedroom home in.• accordance with the Minnesota Pollution Control
Agency Chapter 7080 and local ordinances . (actual three bedroom )
The soils on this site are typical of SCS soils mapped - LrC - Lester
loam. A seasonally high water table was located at 52" , 54" & 80"
(mottled soil) in the proposed treatment area, SB ' s #3 , 4 ,5 &6 &
at 22" & 26" in SB' s #1 & 2 the future expansion area. A shallow
trench system may be installed 24" deep. This site is on a 15$ .
slope. Due to the slope, recommend to install drain tile upslope
of the system to allow the trenches to be an additional 6" deep,
(a total of 24") to key the rock into the existing grade. This is
needed to keep a 3 ' seperation from the water table.
The soils at a depth of 24" in TH' s #3, 4 , 5&6 have a percolation rate , -
averaging 17.8 min/inch and are adequate for treating septic effluer�t, .
TH' s #1&2 have a percolation rate averaging 12 . 2 min/inch.
A pumping chamber will need to be installed to lift the effluent to the
treatment area.
The power supply and switches must be located outside the manhole and
pumping chamber i� a weather proof enclosure. A warning device must be
installed with a light and sound device, this is in case of a pump failure.
(Mercury floats are a good method) . The supply line pipe must� have back
drainage to the pumping chamber.
The future expansion area on this site will need to be a Pressurized
Mound System on a 10� slope. The existing well is less than 50 ' from
the future site & will need to be relocated if the site is needed.
All neighboring wells are located greater than 100 ' away from the
proposed treatment area.

Keep all heavy equipment off of the proposed treatment area before and
after construction. The treatment area should be marked off before
construction. •This Design is not valid & the System will --need to
be relocated if failure to protect the areas proposed for On-Site
Sewage Treatment occurs. y
With proper installation and maintenance, this system should have no
problem in treating septic effluent effectively.
Recommend to pump the septic tank every year if there is only 1 tank
& every 2 years if there are 2 tanks .
