The purpose of the wetland determination is to determine the possible requirement of wetland buffer per City ordinance. This report summarizes the findings of the wetland investigation and Determination performed on November 20, 2012. This report does not satisfy the requirements of an official Determination. WETLAND DETERMINATION METHODOLOGY The property at 2850 Somerset Lane was examined November 20, 2010 was examined for potential wetland areas based on landscape position,hydrology and soil hydric indicators. 1. Hydric Soils. A hydric soil is defined as a soil that formed under conditions of saturation, flooding or ponding long enough during the growing season (the portion of the year when soil temperatures at 12 inches below the soil surface are above 41 degrees Fahrenheit), to develop anaerobic conditions in the upper part. Hydric soils were identified using the Hennepin County Soil Survey and Munsell Soil Color Charts. 2. Wetland Hydrology. An area has wetland hydrology if it is inundated or saturated 12 inches of the soil surface for at least 14 consecutive days during the growing season in at least 5 out of 10 years. Most years is defined as having a 50 percent probability of occurrence in any given year. The minimum 5 percent duration refers to a continuous single episode. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Prior to conducting a field investigation of this site, an aerial photograph and a soil map were reviewed for the presence of hydric indicators on site. This helped to determine what areas on the parcel to examine in the field. Page 1 C13.105918 November 21,2012 WETLAND INVESTIGATION AND DETERMINATION REPORT 2850 Somerset Lane,Application#2012-01104 City of Orono Hennepin County,Minnesota DESCRIPTION OF THE SITE The parcel is located at 2850 Somerset Lane in Orono, Mn. One potential area was examined. This area is an enclosed depression, that appears to be man made. Water drains to this depression via the road ditch from the west. Vegetation stubble looked different than the adjacent lawn so a close examination of the soils was performed. The Hennepin County Soil Survey indicates the Cordova soil as mapped within the study area boundaries. Cordova soil is considered to be a hydric soil. FINDINGS On November 20, 2012, a field investigation was performed to evaluate the potential for wetland on the site. No wetlands were found on or directly adjacent to the parcel. Attached to this report are two eaLhibits. Exhibit A indicates the study area boundary and the soil transect and Exhibit B is the soil boring log and the pictures of the site. The soils found do not qualify as hyrdic soil according to the standards of the Army Corps of Engineers. It should be noted that this wetland determination is made for the purpose of establishing the need far wetland buffer according to Orono City ordinance. This report does not replace a wetland delineation which would be required if any work is proposed in or adjacent to the study area. Wetland boundaries may vary as a result of varied precipitation and evaporation rates from season to season. There is no guarantee that a future wetland delineation would not find a wetland on the site. Bolton & Menk, Inc., was asked to determine the boundaries of potential wetlands that exist upon this property as defined by the Wetland Conservation Act. Based upon all available information, the existing conditions that currently prevail, and the on-site investigation, there is no evidence that supports the existence of wetland at 2850 Somerset Lane, Orono, MN.
