Re: Building Permit Fee Adjustment
Dear Maura:
I apologize for the delay in processing your reqaest for an adjustment of your building permit
fees. The City experienced a flood of building permit applications this fall and only now have
begun to catch up.
I have reviewed your permit fees and find your original $40,000 estimated construction value
to be close to the value the City would have given the project. The State of Minnesota Building
Code Division provides the City with square footage values based on averages in comparable
areas of the metro area. The values applied to your project are as follows:
24'�c2,8' = 672 s.f. of unf'uushed basement at $12.12 per s.f. _ $8,144.64
672 s.f. of finished first floor at $44.29 per s.f. = $29,762.88
$8,144.64 + $29,762.88 = $37,907.52
These formulas are used on all permit applications to provide a minimum uniform fee for all
projects throughout the City. It should also be noted that the Assessor does not use the building
permit estimate construction value for taxation purposes. The difference between a $40,000
estimated construction value pernut fee and a $37,900 permit fee is $22.45. The Ciry's policy
is to not refund permit fees of less than$100.00 because of the staff time involved in processing
