SCOPE: This review is limited to the design of this particular project only insofar as the provisions of the
Minnesota Plumbing Code, as amended, apply, and does not cover the water supply or sewerage system to
which this plumbing system is connected. The review is based upon the supposition that the data on which
the design is based are correct, and that necessary legal authority has been obtained to construct the project.
The responsibility for the design of structural features and the efficiency of equipment must be taken by the
project designer. Approval is contingent upon satisfactory disposition of any requirements included in this
report. Special care should be taken to insure that the material and installation of the plumbing system are in
accordance with the provisions of the Minnesota Plumbing Code. A copy of the approved plans and
specifications should be retained at the project location for future reference.
Enclosed is a copy of the report and transmittal letter to be forwarded to the project owner.
INSPECTIONS: All plumbing installations must be tested and inspected in accordance with the requirements
of the Minnesota Plumbing Code. As specified in Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2830, no plumbing work may be
covered prior to completing the required tests and inspections. Provisions must be made for applying an air
test at the time of the roughing-in inspection as outlined in Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2820, subpart 2, of the
code. A manometer test, as specified in Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2820, subpart 3, is required at the time of
the finished plumbing inspection. It is the responsibility of the contractor/installer to notify the State Health
Department when the installation will be ready for a test and inspection. To schedule inspections, contact the

REQUIREMENT(S):
1. Potable water connections to the sprinkler system holding tank must be protected from backflow by an
approved backflow preventer or air gap (see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2000).
2. The flammable waste trap shall be constructed in accordance with the Minnesota Plumbing Code,
Minnesota Rules, part 4715.1120 (refer to the enclosed handout). The interceptor shall include:
a. At least 3 feet of depth below the invert of the discharge pipe.
b. A water seal of not less than 3 inches on the inlet and not less than 18 inches on the outlet.
c. The vent must rise vertically or within 45 degrees of the vertical to a point at least 6 inches above the
interceptor. The vent shall be constructed of approved metallic pipe material.
3. Showers or combination showers-baths shall be equipped with antiscald-type control valves. These
valves must be of the thermostatic or pressure balance type in accordance with ANSI/ASSE Standard
1016-90 (see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.1380, subpart 5). Please verify compliance with this standard.
Our copy of the Moen catalog did not list the specified Model No. 2345 shower valve.

4. A full-way valve must be provided on the cold water supply line to the water heater(see Minnesota Rules,
part 4715.1800).
5. Equipment used fo�heating water or storing hot water shall be protected by approved safety devices in
accordance with Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2210 and part 4715.2230. Water heaters must be installed
so that they are readily accessible for inspection, repair, or replacement. Water heaters may not be
located above ceiling panels.
6. Threaded noule connections must be provided with approved backflow preventers. This shall include the
hose bibbs.
7. There shall be at least two cleanouts in the building drain, one at or near the base of the stack and one
near the connection between the building drain and the building sewer. The cleanout at the outside wall
� may be inside or outside of the building, and shall be made with a full "Y" branch fitting and shall.extend
at least 2 inches above-grade or finished floor, except that the administrative authority may grant
permission to use a flush cover (see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.1000).
8. All solder and flux used for the potable water distribution systems shall contain less than 0.2 percent lead.
Use of 50-50 solder or flux containing more than 0.2 percent lead is prohibited in potable water
distribution systems. Any solder other than 95-5 tin-antimony or 96-4 tin-silver must be specifically
approved by the administrative authority prior to use (see Minnesota Statutes, Section 326.371).
9. If plastic pipe is used for the drain, waste and vent system:
a. ABS plastic pipe shall comply with ASTM Standard D 2661 or F 628.
b. PVC plastic pipe shall comply with ASTM Standard D 2665, D 2949 or F 891.
c. It must be installed in accordance with Minnesota Rules, part 4715.0580(F) and part 4715.0600.
Above-grade horizontal runs of plastic waste and vent pipe cannot exceed 35 feet in total length.
Above-grade vertical stacks constructed of plastic pipe may exceed 35 feet in total height only if an
approved expansion joint is used.
d. Solvent weld joints in PVC and CPVC pipe must inctude use of a primer which is of contrasting color
to the pipe and cement (see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.0810, subpart 2).
10. The plumbing system shall be tested in accordance with Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2820.
11. The water piping system shall be disinfected in accordance with Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2250.
NOTE(S):
1. The scope of this project consists of the construction of a new building. The plumbing installation
includes restrooms, showers, a break room sink, and a flammable waste interceptor.
2. This faciliry is served by a private well and an individual sewage treatment system.
Authorization for construction in accordance with the approved plans may be withdrawn if construction is not
undertaken within a period of two years. The fact that the plans have been approved does not necessarily
mean that recommendations or requirements for change will not be made at some later time when changed
conditions, additional information, or advanced knowledge make improvements necessary.

1. All underground sections of building drain and building sewer pipe located within 10 feet of buried water
supply pipe must be constructed in accordance with Minnesota Rules, part 4715.1710, subpart 2.

3. Full-way valves must be provided at all locations described under Minnesota Rules, part 4715.1800,
including the following locations:
a. At the water service entrance to the building.
b. On the discharge side of the water meter.
c. On the cold water supply line to the water heater.
4. Equipment used for heating water or storing hot water shall be protected by approved safery devices in
accordance with Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2210 and part 4715.2230.
5. The vent pipes through the roof shall terminate not less than 12 inches above the roof(see Minnesota
Rules, part 4715.2530, subpart 1).
6. The construction and location of the water supply well shall be in compliance with Minnesota Rules,
Chapter 4725. The project owner, owner's agent or well driller should contact the Minnesota Department
of Health, Well Management Unit, at 612/215-0811 before the well construction begins to allow verification
that the well is properly sited.
NOTE(S):
1. The scope of this project consists of the remodeling of an existing building. The plumbing installation
includes bathrooms, showers, a prep sink, a hand sink, a dishwasher, a disposer, and bar sinks.
2. This facility is served by a private well and an individual sewage treatment system. The sewage
treatment system was reviewed by the city of Orono On-site Systems Manager, Mr. Steve Weckman.
Authorization for construction in accordance with the approved plans may be withdrawn if construction is not
undertaken within a period of two years. The fact that the plans have been approved does not necessarily
mean that recommendations or requirements for change will not be made at some later time when changed
conditions, additional information, or advanced knowledge make improvements necessary.
