' Your site is located on Shoreline Drive in Navarre, Minnesota, where you propose to build a new home. The site is described as: the South 233 feet of the West 150 feet of that part of , Government Lot 8 lying East of Streater's Spring Park Addition. The investigation consisted of exploratory soil borings to aid in ' identifying soil and water conditions. We have indicated the approximate location of the borings on an attached site plan sketch. Elevations shown are approximate and are based on The ' North American Datum. The benchmark for these elevations is the - spike in lath in 8 inch pine tree as shown = 935.00. ' Borings were taken with a truck mounted CME 45 drill rig using solid stem continuous-flight augers. Soils encountered in the ' borings were visually and manually examined in the field by the crew chief. The soils are classified on the basis of texture and plasticity in accordance with ASTM D2487 "Unified Soil ' Classification System". A chart explaining the Unified Soil Classification System is attached. ' ' 1 \ 1 ' RECOMMENDATIONS: The firm grey sandy clay found at an elevation of from 914 to 918 ' in the soil borings (about 13 to 17 feet below your frost footings) is suitable for the support of a new home. It is our opinion that this firm grey sandy clay is capable of supporting ' footings proportioned to exert a maximum bearing pressure of 3500 pounds per square foot on this soil. ' The peat, fill, and soft organic peat found above the firm grey sandy clay is not suitable for the support of your proposed home. t It is our opinion that removing these soils by excavation and replacing them with compacted granular fill is the best option for building on this site. ' It will be necessary to oversize the bottom of the excavation by from 13 to 17 feet to provide a one to one slope on the side of ' the compacted fill. The compacted fill would form a truncated pyramid under the footings with one to one slope on the sides downward and outward from the outside edge of the frost footings. ' We recommend that a 100% crushed Class 5 material be used for the compacted fill since compaction efforts below the water table , will be difficult. After surface compaction of the crushed material, a thin layer of sand could be added to facilitate placement of footings. ' An alternative would be to place the home on treated timber pilings. If you elect to use this method, additional testing to ' give your piling engineer the data he will need to design your piling layout will be required. 1 ' ' , ' ' , ' STANDARD CAUTIONS: ' Even thou h we measure t e round water that ma g h depth of any g y ' have accumulated in the borings immediately at completion of the borings, we find that in "dry" borings some water may eventually accumulate and in borings where we find ground water, it will ' usually rise over a period of time, particularly in clayey soils. We do not revisit the borings to measure the water level later since often the cave in of the boring sides, rain, etc. can t render these measurements of little value and there is some danger in leaving the borings open on sites where pedestrian traffic is a good possibility. ' While it is our opinion that a properly designed a:zd installed drain tile system and submersible sump pump wi1:L keep most , basements dry and should be a standard part f all new construction, we make no guarantees in this regard. ' Of necessity, the area of the borings in relation to the area of the site and the depth of the borings are limited. Suggestions and recommendations of this report are opinions ba_>ed on data tobtained from the borings. If upon excavation, conditions that are not consistert with the ' borings are revealed, it is agreed that you will nctify us so that we may gather further information and modify our opinion or indicate that no modification is necessary in a written addendum ' to this report; or failing to engage our services to prepare such written addendum, it is agreed that you proceed at your own peril . , If we may be of further assistance in evaluating this data, kindly contact us at your convenience. ' , Sincerely, ' ADVANCE SURVE G ENGINEERING C0. w , ' j J es H.
