The review is based upon the supposition that the data on which the design is based are correct,and that necessary legal authority has been obtained to construct the project. The responsibility for the design of structural features and the efficiency of equipment must be taken by the project designer. Approval is contingent upon satisfactory disposition of any requirements included in this report. Special care should be taken to insure that the material and installation of the plumbing system are in accordance with the provisions of the Minnesota Plumbing Code. A copy of the approved plans,specifications,and this Report on Plans must be retained at the project location for future reference. INSPECTIONS: All plumbing installations must be tested and inspected in accordance with the requirements of the Minnesota Plumbing Code. As specified in Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2830,no plumbing work may be covered prior to completing the required tests and inspections. Provisions must be made for applying an air test at the time of the roughing-in inspection as outlined in Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2820, subpart 2,of the code. A manometer test,as specified in Minnesota Rules,part 47152820,subpart 3, is required at the time of the finished plumbing inspection. It is the responsibility of the contractor/installer to notify the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry when an installation for a state contract job,Minnesota Department of Health licensed healthcare facility,or project in an area where there is no local administrative authority is ready for an inspection and test. Reduced pressure zone backflow preventers are permitted when periodic testing is done by a trained backflow preventer tester acceptable to the administrative authority. Testing intervals shall not exceed one year, and records must be kept. All devices must be tested after initial installation and overhauled at least once every five years. New installations must be at least 12 inches,but not more than 6 feet,above the finished floor or ground level. 2. Potable and nonpotable water distribution systems and outlets must be identified in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.1910. The combination fire protection/domestic water service shall comply with the backflow protection requirements of AWWA-M14, Chapter 6 (1990)with the exception that the following statement is deleted from section 6.3: "At any time where the fire sprinkler piping is not an acceptable potable water system material,there shall be a backflow-prevention assembly isolating the fire sprinkler system from the potable water system." Fire sprinkler systems in which corrosion inhibitors or other chemicals may be introduced either directly or by pumper connections require a reduced pressure zone(RPZ)backflow preventer on the public water supply. Local jurisdictions may require additional backflow protection. Please contact the local water purveyor for information concerning their requirements. 4. Pressure vacuum breakers must be installed at least 12 inches above spill line and no possibility of back pressure permitted. If a hose will be installed,the backflow preventer must be installed above the highest point that the hose will located when in use. The minimum recommended height is 6 feet 6 inches. 5. The plans indicate that a faucet with a hand-held sprayer will be provided. If it is possible to submerge the sprayer and contaminate the potable water system,then an approved backflow preventer shall be provided on the water supply to the sprayer(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2100). 6. The flammable waste interceptor installation shall comply with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.1120: a. The interceptor shall be located so it is readily accessible for service and maintenance. b. The interceptor may be constructed either: (i)of monolithic poured reinforced concrete with a minimum floor and wall thickness of six inches,(ii)of iron or steel of a minimum thickness of 3/16 inch,protected with an approved corrosion resistant coating on both the inside and the outside,or(iii)of fiberglass resins that comply with ASTM C581 and meet IAPMO Material and Property Standard,PS 80-2003b, for clarifiers. 7. Showers and combination showers-baths shall be equipped with individual thermostatic,pressure balancing, or combination thermostatic and pressure-balancing control valves in accordance with ASSE 1016(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.1380, subpart 5). The maximum temperature setting must be set or adjusted in accordance with the standard and should not exceed 110 degrees F. 8. Equipment used for heating water or storing hot water shall be protected by approved safety devices in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2210 and part 4715.2230. 9. In no case shall water from roofs be allowed to flow upon the public sidewalk(see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2700). Verify that the discharge from all rainwater leaders will meet this requirement. 10. Sheet M1.1 shows 8-inch storm drainage pipe serving approximately 11,700 square feet of roof area exiting the building. A 8-inch horizontal storm drain can only accommodate 11,500 square feet of roof area at a 1/8 inch per foot slope(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2710,subpart 4).Verify that the referenced 8-inch horizontal storm drainage pipe is sloped'/a inch per foot slope at a minimum or else the pipe shall be increased to 10 inches in diameter. 11. All portions of the storm sewer system located within 10 feet of the building or water service line must be tested in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2820. Verify that the two-way cleanout referenced on Sheet M1.1 serving the flammable waste line is a single manufactured piece of equipment and not two separate cleanouts. No fitting,connection,or device which obstructs or retards the flow of water or sewage in an amount greater than the normal frictional resistance to show shall be used(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2420, subpart 3). 13. Each horizontal drain branch, including floor drain branches,shall be provided with a cleanout at its upper terminal with the following exceptions(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.1000): a. A readily removable fixture trap or a fixture with an integral trap may be accepted as a cleanout. b. A floor drain cleanout may be omitted if the floor drain branch line is less than 5 feet. c. Shower drain,mop sink,and receptor cleanouts may be on the fixture vent,or on the fixture. 14. A cleanout shall be provided on a common vertical fixture drain or common vent serving two fixture traps that connect to a vertical drain at the same level. The cleanout shall be the same nominal pipe size as the drain serving the fixtures. Where the vertical fixture drain is accessible through the trap opening,the cleanout may be eliminated(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.1000). I5. Above-grade horizontal plumbing piping must be supported as follows(see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.1430, subpart 4): a. Plastic pipe: at least every 32 inches. b. Cast iron: at least every 5 feet; or 10 feet when ten foot lengths of pipe are used. c. Copper tubing(P/a-inch or less): at least every 6 feet. d. Copper tubing(1'/z-inch or over): at least every 10 feet. 16. A full-way valve must be provided on the cold water supply line to the water heater(see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.1800). NOTE(S): 1. The scope of this project consists of the remodeling of an existing building. The plumbing installation shall include five roof drains and storm water drainage piping,water heaters,hose bibbs,pressure washers,a flammable waste interceptor,trench drains, floor drains,an emergency eyewash, an electric water cooler,a single compartment sink, two showers,and two public restrooms with flush valve water closets. 2. This facility will be served by an existing sanitary sewer and a new municipal water service. Authorization for construction in accordance with the approved plans may be withdrawn if construction is not undertaken within a period of two years. The fact that the plans have been approved does not necessarily mean that recommendations or requirements for change will not be made at some later time when changed conditions, additional information,or advanced knowledge make improvements necessary. -..
