Date Received: June 10,2003

SCOPE: This review is limited to the design of this particular project only insofar as the provisions of the
Minnesota Plumbing Code, as amended, apply, and does not cover the water supply or sewerage system to which
this plumbing system is connected. The review is based upon the supposition that the data on which the design is
based are correct, and that necessary legal authority has been obtained to construct the project. The
responsibility for the design of structural features and the eciency of equipment must be taken by the project
designer. Approval is contingent upon satisfactory disposition of any requirements included in this report.
Special care should be taken to insure that the material and installation of the plumbing system are in accordance
with the provisions of the Minnesota Plumbing Code. A copy of the approved plans and specifications should
be retained at the project location for future reference. .
INSPECTIONS: All plumbing installations must be tested and inspected in accordance with the requirements of
the Minnesota Plumbing Code. As specified in Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2830,no plumbing work may be
covered prior to completing the required tests and inspections. Provisions must be made for applying an air test
at the time of the roughing-in inspection as outlined in Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2820, subpart 2, of the code.
A manometer test, as specified in Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2820, subpart 3,is required at the time of the
finished plumbing inspection. It is the responsibility of the contractor/installer to notify the Minnesota
Department of Health when an installation for a state contract job, licensed facility, or project in an area where
there is no local administrative authority is ready for an inspection and test. To schedule inspections, contact the
state plumbing standards representative for your region, or call the metro office inspection hotline at 1-800-926-
6216 (7:30 a.m.to 9 a.m.), or 651/215-0836 (8 a.m.to 9 a.m.) on Monday,Wednesday or Friday.
REQUIREMENT(S):
1. The specified eyewash appears to show the water supplies routed through the eyewash bowl. Therefore, the
eyewash must discharge indirectly to the drainage system.
2. The flatnmable waste trap shall be constructed in accordance with the Minnesota Plumbing Code,
Minnesota Rules, part 4715.1120. The interceptor shall include:
a. The vent must rise vertically or within 45 degrees of the vertical to a point at least 6 inches above the
interceptor. The vent shall be constructed of approved metallic pipe material.
b. Drains that discharge into the interceptor shall be the dry-pan-type.
3. Showers or combination showers-baths shall be equipped with antiscald-type control valves. These valves
must be of the thermostatic or pressure balance type in accordance with ANSUASSE Standard 1016-90(see
Minnesota Rules,part 4715.1380, subpart 5).

4. A full-size vent stack(3-inch minimum)must be provided for every building(see Minnesota Rules,
part 4715.2520, subpart 1). This stack must be continuous in size from its base to its ternunal and should be
the most remote stack from the location where the building drain leaves the building. The flammable waste
interceptor vent does not meet this requirement due to the water seal in the interceptor.
5. The installation of reduced pressure zone bacllow preventers is pernutted only when periodic testing is
done by a trained backflow preventer tester acceptable to the administrative authority. Testing intervals
shall not exceed one year, and records must be kept. All devices must be tested after initial installation to
assure that debris from the piping iiistallatiohas not interfered with the functioning of the device. The
devices shall be overhauled at least once every five years. The installation of new backflow preventers must
be at least 12 inches, but not more than 6 feet above the finished floor or ground level.
6. Solvent weld joints in PVC and CPVC pipe must include use of a primer which is of contrasting color to the
pipe and cement (see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.0810, subpart 2).
7. Type K copper pipe used for water service must be soft temper(see Minnesota Rules, parts 4715.0510,D).
8. The plumbing system shall be tested in accordance with Minnesota Rules, part 47152820.
NOTE(S):
l. The scope of this project consists of the construction of a new building. The plumbing installation includes
restrooms, showers, counter sinks, and potable water connections to a pressure washer and truck fill
equipment.
2. This facility is served by new municipal water and sewer service connections.
Authorization for construction in accordance with the approved plans may be withdrawn if construction is not
undertaken within a period of two years. The fact that the plans have been approved does not necessarily mean
that recommendations or requirements for change will not be made at some later time when changed conditions,
additional information, or advanced knowledge make improvements necessary.
