Re: Zoning Violations
Dear Mr. Sohns:
The City has received complaints regarding operations at 3770 Shoreline Dr. An inspection revealed
the following zoning code violations:
1) Storage of unlicensed inoperable vehicles - violation of Orono Municipal Code
Section 9.50.
2) Exterior storage of building materials,fuel oil tanks, scrap piles,asphalt,boats,brush
and other junk and debris - violation of Orono Municipal Code Section 9.55, Subd.
1.
3) Filling without a grading pertnit approval from the City - violation of Orono
Municipal Code Section 10.03, Subd. 19.
4) Filling within 26' of a wetland-violation of Orono Municipal Code Section 10.55,
Subd. 8.
The City has notified you in the past of these ongoing violations and realizes the clean up could take
a fair amount of time. However, the City expects progress to be made before March 18, 1996 and
the entire property cleaned up and fill removed from the 26' setback area before June 1, 1996. The
City will not hesitate in issuing citations and taking whatever legal actions are necessary to eliminate

Dear Mr. Larson:
It has come to the attention to this department that Dales Excavating is operating from your
property at 3790 Shoreline Drive. This property is zoned LR-1C-1 which is residential.
Operation of a business from the property is not an allowed use in that zoning district. The
property to the east is allowed as an existing nonconforming use because it was in operation
when the zoning went into effect.
The property is also in need of some maintenance. A culvert under the driveway is plugged and
there is various piles of debris scattered around.
The City must establish a deadline of May 2, 1994 for cleanup and for Dales Excavating to be
relocated off the property. Please arrange a meeting on site and we can discuss what needs to
be done by that date. If the deadline is not met, the City will initiate legal action.

On April 14, 199�, tl�is office notified you of zoning violations that existed on your property
at 37g0 Shoreline Drive in Orono. Dale's Contracting was operating an eYcavation/landscaping
business from the property. After you were notified the use subsided. Recently the City
receivetl �uzother complaint 3nd conducted a site inspection to investigate. The inspection
verified that Dale's Contracting is still operating from the site. Various trucks, equipment and
materials are stored on the property in violation of City ordinances.
This letter is to notify you of the City's intent to issue citations and to take wh�tever le�al
sr.ens that are necessary to require you to cease this use of the property. � de�dline of
November 17, 1995 has been established for removal of vehicles and all materials related to
the business. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at my office.

Thank you for calling attention to the zoning violations on your neighbor's property. They are now
under orders from the City to eliminate the violations with a deadline of June 1, 1996.
As you are aware,the City has received complaints regarding the condition and use of your property
at 3790 Shoreline also. A site inspection revealed violations as follows:
1) Storage of unlicensed inoperable vehicles - violation of Orono Municipal Code
Section 9.50.
2) Boat storage - violation of Orono Municipal Code Section 10.60, Subd. 13.
3) Stora�e of junk and debris-violltion of Orono Municipal Code Section 9.55, Subd.
l.
4) Operations of business on property - violation of Orono Municipal Code Section
5.40.
Thc City understands that clean up of all items may require some time to accomplish, so a deadline
of June 1, 1996 has been established for your property also. However, if this deadline is not met,
the City will issue citations and take whatever legal steps that are necessary to bring your property .
