Dear Ms. Shirley:
I have reviewed the plans for the addition of an infant room at the
Shoreline Early Childhood Development Center. The plan is approved
with the following conditions and requirements.
1. The floor covering in the feeding room and underneath the
diaper changing area must be a smooth, easily cleanable
surface. The linoleum proposed will be acceptable, however,
when this floor covering begins to crack, chip, peel or in any
other way becomes in disrepair, it must be replaced with
approved floor covering such as quarry or ceramic tile.
2 . The wall covering behind the refrigerator and the length of
that wall , and the wall covering behind the diapering station
must be fiberglass reinforced paneling (FRP) or equivalent.
This wall covering must be floor to ceiling in coverage.
3 . The counter top in the feeding room must be an approved food
contact surface such as plastic laminate or stainless steel.
4 . The refrigerator must be NSF approved. Please send
specifications to this office regarding this piece of
equipment.
5. A minimum of one plumbed handsink is required in the infant
room for food handlers and diaper changing. Two handsinks are
recommended and preferred. One should be designated for the
diaper changing area and one for the food preparation area.
These handsinks also must be NSF approved. Soap, disposable
towels, and a nailbrush are required at these handsinks. The
pump handsinks are not acceptable.
6. A mechanical ventilation fan is required over the diaper
changing area.
