SCOPE: This revie�v is limited to fhe design of this particular project only insofar as the provisions of the
Minnesota Plumbing Code,as amended, apply, and does not cover the�vater supply or sewerage system to�vhich
"this plumbing system is connected. The revie�v is based upon the supposition that the data on�vhich the design is
based are correct,and that necessary legal authority has been obtained to construct the project. The responsibility
for the design of sriuctural features and the efficiency of equipment must be taken by the�roject designe��.
Approval is contingent upon satisfactory disposition of any requirements included in this repo�-t. Special care
shot�Id be taken to insure that the material and installation of the plumbing system are in accordance with the
provisions of the Minnesota Plumbing Code. A copy of tiie appraved plans,specificatioits,a�id this Report on
Pla�is must be re#ained at the project Iocatioi� for fiiture refereiice.
INSPECTIONS: All plumbing installations must be tested and inspected in accordance with the requirements of
the Minnesota Plumbing Code. As speczfied in Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2830,no plumbing work may be
covered prio�•to completing the required tests and inspections. Provisions must be made for applying an air test at
the time of the roughing-in inspection as outlined in Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2820,subpart 2,of the code. A
manoineter test,as specified in Minnesota Rules,part 4715.282Q subpart 3,is required at the time of the finished
plumbing inspection. Tt is the responsibilify of the contractor/installer to notify the Minnesota Department of Labor
and Indushy when an installation for a state contract job, licensed facility, or projeet in an ai•ea where there is no
local administ�•ative authority is ready for an inspection and test. To schedule inspections,contact the state

R�QUIREMENT(S):
1. Pedicure spas and their installation must comp2y�vith ASME/ANSI Standard A 112.19.7. �ur office can find
no evidence that the specified Petalo HT-135 chair is conshucted to this standard. If the pedicure chair is not
marked from the factoiy as complying with ASME/ANST Standa�•d A112.19.7 or if evidence cannot be
px�ovided to this office that the pedicure is listed by a third-party testing agency as ASMEIANSI Standard
A112.19.7,the pedicure chairs may not be installed at this facility.
2. If the pedicure chairs have submer•ged iniets,or inlets belo�v the spill Iine of the fixture o�-equipment,each
connection must be provideci�vith an approved backflo�v preventer oz•backflow preventer assembiy as
specified in Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2000 and part 4715.2010. No shut-off valve may be located
downsh�eam of an atmospheric vacuum breaker. Accordingiy,the backflo�v preventers must be pressare-type
at rninimum and must be installed on each hot and cold�vater supply Iine to each pedic�u•e chair.
This information can be provided to yoa in altemative formats(Breille,large print or audio).

3. Pedicure spas must discharge by graviry to the sanitary sewer through a direct connection. T}ie drain branch
from each pedicure spa must be trapped and individually vented in accordance with Minnesota Rules,
part 4715.2620,subpart 4. The fixture vent nnay not be below the weir of the trap(see Minnesota Rules,part
4715.262Q,subpart 2). Use of the factory-supplied irap will require that the horizantal ctrain leading from the
�ap to the vent to be instatled above the floor,and the maximum permissible distance between a 1%z-inch
trap and the vent is 42 inches(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2b20,subpart 4).
4. A water supply 1'vne to a sprayhinse hose on a shampoo sink shall be protected against baokflow by the use of
an in-line vac�,ium breaker(see Minnesota Rules,part 47IS.2110).
5�. Assuming a maximzun developed length of pipe of 50 feet and a building water pxessure at the
meter between 46 and 60 psi,and using Minnesota Rules,part 4715.3800: If the existing water
distribution system that will serve the new fixtures also serves the existing toilet room,the new
branches must connect to existing hot and cold watez dishibution branches of at least I-inch in size.
6. Equipment used for heating water or storing hat water shall be protected by approved safety devices in
accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2210 and part 4715.2230. Verify that a temperature and
pressure relief valve is provided for the water heater.
7. It is recommended that a cleanout be provided where new waste and vent piping connects with exis#ing
plumbing to facilitate required testing of the new installarion.
8. The installation of cross-link polyethylene(PEX)tubing was specified for the water distribution system. If
a]I of the following requirements cannot be met,a different material that complies with Minnesota Rules,part
4715.4520 must be used:
a. The tubing system must comply with ASTM Standard F877 ar�d F876.
b. When instalied as a system in accordance with ASTM Standard F877,the system tubing and fittings
mnst be of the same manufacturer.
c. When other fittings are used with ASTM Standard F877 and F875 tubing,the fittings must connply and
be marked wittt ASTM Standard F1807,F1960,F2080,F2098-01,or F2159. In addition,the iubing
must be marked to indicate the fitting standard and the corresponding tubing standard(e.g.ASTM
F877/F876lF1960,F877/F8�6/Ft807,etc.).
d. The system must be installed by a factory trained installer of the particular PEX system to be installed.
Certain manufacturers require ins#allation by licensed plumbers who have been trained to install their
material.
e. All persons installing PEX materials shall have a card on their possession dooumenting completion of
training by the manufacturer or his agent for the material to be installed.
f. The tubing and fittings must be marked as required by the applicable standard specification and��+ith the
appropriate ASTM designations by the manufacturer.
g. The installation must be in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions.

9. PVC plastic pipe used for the drain,waste,and vent system shall comply��ith ASTM Standard D2665,
D2949 or F891 (see Minnesota Rules,part 47 t 5.0570 through part 4715.0600). Solvent weld joints in PVC
and CPVC pipe must include use of a primer which is of contrasting color to the pipe and cement. A one-
step solvent cement complying�vifh ASTM Standard F493 or D2846 may be used for CPVC joints(see
Minnesota Rules,part 4715.0810,subpart 2}.
10. The plumbing system shall Ue tested in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2820.
11. The water distribution system shall be disinfected in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2250.
NOTE(S):
1. The scope of this project consists of tke remodelling of an exisEing building. The plumbing installation
inctudes hvo hair�vash sinks and hvo pedicure sinks.
2. This facitity will be served by existing municipal water and se�ver service connections.
Authorization for construction in accoidance wath the approved plans may be�vithdrawn if construction is not
undertaken within a peiiod of two years. The fact that the plans l�ave been approved does not necessarily meaii that
recommendations or reyuirements fox change will not be made at some later time when changed conditions,
additional information,or advanced knowledge make improvements necessary.
