This order is formal notification ,of violations as discussed and
documented in our inspection. Pursuant to the authority vested in me
by the City of Orono, you and each of you upon whom this order is served,
are hereby ordered within the prescribed time to:
l . Within seven (7 ) days, remove all junk and debris from
mechanical room. Pursuant to Minnesota Uniform Fire Code
(MUFC) 11.203 (c) which states :
" (c) Equipment Rooms. Boiler rooms, mechanical rooms and
electrical panel rooms shall not be used for storage of
combustible merchandise, material or equipment. "
2. Within 10 days, remove all storage from duct work. Pursuant
to MUFC 11. 40 (d) which states :
" (d) Clearances. Heating appliances shall be installed and
maintained with clearance from combustibles in conformance
with the Mechanical Code. "
3. Within seven (7 ) days, install door on electrical panel.
Pursuant to NFPA 70 ART 240-41 (b) which states :
" (d) No live parts. Plug fuses, fuseholders, and adapters
shall have no exposed live parts after fuses or fuses and
adapters have been installed. "

4. Within seven (7 ) days, all use of extension cords used for
permanent wiring or improperly used shall stop. Pursuant to
MUFC 85.106 (a) , (b) , (c) which states:
"Bxtension Cords. Section 85.106 (a) Prohibited Use.
Extension cords shall not be used as a substitute for
permanent wiring. "
" (b) Use of Portable Appliances. Extension cords are
permitted only with portable appliances or fixtures. While
in immediate use, in accordance with the following:
1. Each extension cord shall be plugged directly into an
approved receptacle and shall, exceptfor approved multiplug
extension cords, serve only one appliance or fixture.
2. The current capacity of the cord shall be not less than the
rated capacity of the appliance or fixture.
3. The extension cord is maintained in good condition
without splices, deterioration or damage.
4. The extension cord is of the grounded type when servicing
grounded appliances or fixtures. "
" (c) Installation. Extension cords andflexible cords shall
not be affixed to structures, extend through walls, ceilings,
floors, under doors or floor coverings, nor be subject to
environmental damage or physical impact. "
5. Within seven (7 ) days, installdoor closer on mechanicalroom.
Pursuant to to NFPA 101 (a) , (b) , which states:
"6-4.1 Protection shall be provided from any area having a
degree of hazard greater than that normal to the general
occupancy of the building or structure, such as storage of
combustibles or flammables, heat producing appliances, or
maintenance purposes, as follows:
(a) Enclosure with construction in accordance with
Section 6-2 with a fire resistance rating as
specificed by Chapters 8 through 30, but not less than
1 hour, or
(b) Protection with automatic extinguishing systems
in accordance with Section 7-7 , as required by
Chapters 8 through 30 . "

Failure to comply within the time provided is a violation of the law
and may result in citations or closing down the building or area of the
violations. Upon completion, please notify the Inspection
Department in writing.
