J. Miller Const.
NAVARRE, MINNESOTA Widmer, Inc.
SOIL OBSERVATION AND TESTING
INTRODUCTION
This report concerns our observation and testing of soil conditions for the planned addition to
Rick's Super Valu in Navarre, Minnesota. Our work was requested by Russ Widmer on August
16, 1991. The scope of work we were authorized to perform was limited to the following items:
1• Observe the soils exposed within the completed building area excavation.
2. Put down shallow hand auger borings within the excavated area.
3. Judge whether tte observed soils are suitable for support of fill and structural
loadings.
4. Perform compaction testing of fill placed to established grade.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on our v,isual observatioii and shallow hand auger borings, it is our opinion that the soils
exposed at completion of excavation within the building area addition consist of naturally deposited
soils similar to those described in tte report to the preliminary subsurface exploration (#4220 91-
1043). These naturally deposited soils consisted of brown and grey lean clay, sandy lean clay and
clayey sand. The soils in the condition observed, were judged to be suitable for support of fill and
structural loadings. According to offset staking and building elevation information supplied by
others, a suitable lateral excavation oversize of l:l appeared to be maintained around the
perimeter of the excavation.
.
