Dear Mr. Reus:
I am writing this letter to summarize my observations and recommendations for the garage
addition at 2780 Shadywood Road.
A 12-foot wide garage expansion is being constructed adjacent to the existing garage at the site.
The existing garage structures are founded on a compacted sand fill material. Excavation of the
foundation material to construct frost footings for the new garage indicated that the existing sand
fill material terminated approximately 8 to 10 feet from the garage, and organic material was
encountered, extending down to the water table (approximately 4 to 5 feet below grade). Further
investigation with the backhoe indicated that a sound sand material is present at about 6 to 7 feet
below grade. .
The contractor was directed to excavate to the sand material, extending at least 3 feet beyond the
footing location, place 3/4" rock material up to an elevation above the water table, and to place and
compact sand material above the rock to the base of the required footing elevation. This will
provide an adequate foundation to support the footings required for the garage structure.
If you have any further questions, please call me.
Sincerely,
QVv ,
