Dear Melanie:
We have reviewed the revised grading plan and earthwork calculations for 2680 Shadywood Road, dated
November 7, 2008. We have the following comments with regards to engineering matters:
• The existing watermain and service should be shown on the plan.
• The silt fence should be constructed with steel T-posts.
• It appears that the proposed grading in the backyard will significantly increase the runoff to West
Lafayette Road. Drainage calculations should be submitted to show that the post-construction
runoff to the south does not exceed the pre-construction runoff. The applicant may want to
consider installing a rain garden or other BMP to decrease the rate of runoff onto West Lafayette
Road.

Dear Melanie:
We have reviewed the grading plan for 2680 Shadywood Road, dated October 22, 2008. We have the
following comments with regards to engineering matters:
• There is a low point shown along the south lot line north of West Lafayette Road. The plans should
indicate how and where this area drains.
• The proposed driveway located on Shadywood Road is relatively close to the intersection with West
Lafayette Road. Hennepin County should review and comment on the driveway location.
• All existing utilities(sewer and water)should be shown on the plan.
• Earthwork calculations that quantify the proposed cut and fill on the site should be submitted to the
C ity.
• Hennepin County aerial photos show this to be a heavily wooded lot, and a significant amount of
trees would need to be removed to grade the site. If the site has not already been cleared, the
existing trees should be shown on the plan, and the trees to be removed should be identified.
• Erosion and sediment control measures should be shown on the plans.
• The proposed grading plan will route runoff onto neighboring properties to both the north and east.
Drainage calculations should be submitted that show that the post-construction runoff does not
exceed the pre-construction runoff to these lots.
