Re: Garage Repair
Dear Mr. Albertson:
On September 14, 1995 this office issued building permit #7350 to you for "new siding on
garage plus new shingles on roof." During an inspection, however, it was noted that an addition
to the garage was substantially rebuilt. The roof structure and some of the walls were totally
replaced. It was also noted that the new roof is sagging because of a poor design and over span
rafters. A review of your survey shows this addition does not meet the required 10' setback
from the property line. When a structure or a portion of a structure is removed in a substandard
setback, it requires the City Council's approval of a variance to rebuild it.
Therefore, the City must require you to obtain a building permit to move the structure to meet
the setback and rebuild it to meet the building code or if you feel you have a hardship you can
request a variance (variance application enclosed for your review). Please contact me to discuss
how you wish to proceed.
