GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Applications for septic system permits may be mailed or submitted in person at the City
O�ces; however, permits will not be mailed out. The permit must be picked up in
person at the City Offices and work must not begin unless the pernut card is on the jc�b
site.
2. Permits will be issued only to contractors holding a City of Orono Septic System
Installers License.
3. All work must be done in accordance with the approved septic system design. Desa,�n
reports are not considered approved unless accompanied by the "Ciry of Orono Septic
System Approval" cover sheet signed by the City Inspector.
4. The following inspections will be required for all septic systems:
A. Pre-installation site inspection to include inspector, installer, and general contractor�
B. Tank installation prior to covering.
C. Drainfield trench installation prior to covering. For mounds, inspection is requue�
after rough-up but prior to sand placement (sand will be jar tested for silt content)y
and again during pressure distribution piping installation in the rock bed.
D. Final inspection to verify proper final cover depths and to verify that all pump station
(where required) components are functional and comply with codes.
5. Individual holding MPCA Installer Cert�cate shall be present during inspections. A 24-
hour notice is required for all inspections. �
NOTE: Applicant must initial all spaces. Fill in all appropriate blanks, check all appropriate
boxes.

THIS IS NOT A PERIvIIT. This is a design approval form which must accompany the si[e plan. A pecmit must
be issued [o a licensed septic contractor prior to installation. A list of currently licensed septic contracturs is
enclosed.
NOTICE TO INSTALLERS: Any changes to the approved plans and specs must have prior approval of the
Inspector (473-7357). Call for inspections 24 hours iii advance.
ALL DRAINFIELD AREAS MUST BE FENCED OFF prior to building site excavation and fencing must remain
in glace until flnal site grading. Approval to pour footings wili not be granted until the Inspections Department
has verired that primary and alternate sites are adequately protected.
NO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC OF ANY KIND (cars, trucks, earth moving equipment, etc.j is allowed within 20'
of tested drainfield sites either before or after system construction. Compaction of these areas could render them
unusable prohibiting the timely completion and or limiting the long term use of the property.
A sice ccpy will be available at the City Offices for the septic contractor.

Information follows on the design of a pressure mound system for
a four bed�oom house proposed on the above property. All construc-
tion and materials must be in accordance with MPCA Chapter 7080
and City of Orono codes.
All construction traffic must be kept off the primary and the
alternate septic areas . These areas should be marked off with
protective fencing prior to construction.
A pumping tank will be needed to house the pump necessary for
pressure distribution to the system. The manifold and supply
line must be constructed to drain back to the pumping tank.
A weather proff enclosure will be needed for the controls and
switches for the pump and a warning light/sound system will be
needed to warn of pump failure.
