Re: furnace in garage
I consulted with Michael Godfrey at the State of Minnesota about having the
furnace which heats your house being located in the garage. His interpretation of the
Minnesota State Mechanical Code is summarized as follows:
1. Repair of existing heating systems is allowed.
2. Sealing the joints of the ductwork in the garage with tape or joint seal would
be adequate to control the leakage of carbon dioxide from the garage into the
dwelling via the heating system.
3. Since the garage firewall is not being worked on at this time you are not
obligated to repair the sheetrock wall.
Sorry it took some time for me to get an answer from the State of Minnesota, the
person I was trying to contact has left his position. Please contact me at 952-249-4600 if
you have any questions or for re-inspection if the sealing is completed.
